When using the NVIDIA SHIELD with Passthrough activated (because of ATMOS sound etc.) There is a loss of audio signal on every skip/play/pause/start/stop.
The SHIELD itself has an Feature called “comfort noise” which sends an inaudible tone to keep the amp alive. But it does not work when the sound is Dolby based.
Here is an statement from Nvidia:
It sounds like it’s a second or two of audio while in pass through mode, is that correct? My response assumes just audio.
The comfort noise feature on shield only applies to non pass through audio.
Shield doesn’t have a Dolby decode/encode license so we can’t play comfort noise on pass through audio.
So, each time you pause, the pass through stream stops and the avr takes time to resync after you restart it so your experience is expected.
So the solution to that problem would be since Plex is able to decide/encode almost anything if Plex would add a feature to “Send an inaudible tone to keep the amp alive” even in passthrough mode.
This would make the experience with the SHIELD as a Plex Media Player perfect.
