Audio Lag With HomePod from Apple TV...3 years later...still...fix IT!

Seriously. Fix. HomePod. Audio. Output.

Start video, seconds until audio kicks in. Pause video, seconds until audio shuts off. The Apple TV is ALL about streaming video, and here you have the ONLY streaming video app on the market that can’t correctly output to the HomePod. Fix it or give me my money back.

Plan B would be to provide logs.

No issues at all here with the same set up.

Doubt that. So you have your Apple TV with HomePod as the speaker. You play a file from Plex server and there is absolutely no problem with audio delay? You pause it and the audio instantly stops? Cause that’s the complaint I’m speaking of and see everyone else with a HomePod complain of for years.

Just out of curiosity… you’ve said it happens when you stop the track, right? Does this not happen if you just pause the track?

Also, does it happen at the beginning of every new track while you’re listening to a whole album or a playlist?

Yes to both

Fantastic! I mean… it sucks, but it’s good to know that this is a general issue in Plex and not just a problem with my setup.

I posted this report in October 2020: Don’t switch audio source between tracks (NOT about gapless playback). In my case it happens when I’m using my AVR. It seems that when you’re using passthrough or “exclusive mode”, Plex always ends the session whenever you stop a track or the next track begins which causes the device (in your case - HomePod, in my case - my Pioneer AVR) to try to switch to the default (PCM?) streaming source, but the immediately switch back to direct play. This causes the gap which may last a fraction of a second or more than a second, depending on how fast the device handles source switching.

I would appreciate if you could post in my thread so they would see that it’s not just my specific setup. I recently spoke with Plex’s co-founder on Twitter and he said that they don’t have enough staff to respond to all customers and have to focus on issues that affect many users so it would be great if this issue would get some attention if multiple people report it.

Here’s a video clip showing the problem I have. https://icedrive.net/0/caNyHS8zxP

Not sure exactly if we’re talking of same thing, so I posted a clip of mine messing up.

Thanks. You’re right, that’s not the same thing. I thought it was when I asked if it also happens between tracks when listening to an album and you’ve said yes, but that definitely doesn’t look like what I’m experiencing. Nevermind then.

Bump.

Exact same issue here. Homepods are default audio source and pausing a movie (any media) but the audio continues is infuriating. Only app I have that it does this on.

Bump. How about someone from Plex actually takes care of the multi-year issue instead of ignoring their paying users.

Unfortunately, it’s kinda their thing. Plex on Apple TV has audio sync issues when outputting to a HomePod Stereo Pair

I have a HomePod OG, HomePod mini stereo.

Us them with Apple TV 2021.

Audio lag issues randomly.

Infuse plays them without any issues.

Plex needs to sort out this HomePod thing or I might permanently switch to Infuse.

I have switched to Infuse for playback for this very reason, and 4K seems to playback better in Infuse than in Plex. Very annoying that these issues are raised and not fixed, but they are happy to spend months making the UI pretty or adding movies etc that are decades old and no-one watches! Will someone at Plex please address this issue. I’ve had it on the latest Apple TV and previous generation. Also across the last couple of tvOS including the current iOS 15 beta.

Same problem here. My stereo pair homepods OG always lag when playing all sorts of video files.
Most recent mkv 4K atmos seem to be best, but still not exactly synced as all streaming apps seamlessly do

Bump!

Come on Plex. This is a really major annoyance and we know you can fix it. Please show some attention.

Yes… i have the exact same issue… connecting my apple TV with my homepods gives this issue too… glad that i am not the only one…

Have you updated tvOS and homepod? After all the updates, this is now fixed for me

I have updated both TVOS and HomePod OS. Still have the issue happening intermittently.
