Audio/Subtitle "Display Name" problems

Server Version#: 1.18.7.2457
Player Version#: Roku ?.??.? /Web 4.30.1

When Plex creates its “Display Titles” it’s ignoring the “Title” metadata specified in the file, and just combines the language and format. This isn’t great. The “Media Info” pages shows the “Title” metadata, so it’s available to Plex, it just seems to be throwing it away.

It currently makes the display title as:
[language] ([codec])

But if the ‘Title’ is present, it would be great if it could be something more like:
[title] ([language] / [codec])

The following file shows my audio tracks as:

  • 日本語 (FLAC Stereo)
  • 日本語 (FLAC Stereo)

And the subtitles as:

  • English (ASS)
  • English (ASS)
  • English (ASS)

Not real helpful. What I’d expect is something more like:

  • Main (日本語 / FLAC Stereo)
  • Commentary (日本語 / FLAC Stereo)

And the subtitles as:

  • Main (English / ASS)
  • Commentary (English / ASS)
  • Main (alternate) (English / ASS)

Here’s what’s show on Plex Web under media info:

Codec FLAC
Channels 2
Bitrate 642 kbps
Language 日本語
Audio Channel Layout stereo
Bit Depth 16
Sampling Rate 48000 Hz
Title **Main**
Display Title **日本語 (FLAC Stereo)**

Codec FLAC
Channels 2
Bitrate 612 kbps
Language 日本語
Audio Channel Layout stereo
Bit Depth 16
Sampling Rate 48000 Hz
Title **Commentary**
Display Title **日本語 (FLAC Stereo)**

Codec ASS
Language English
Title **Main**
Display Title **English (ASS)**

Codec ASS
Language English
Title **Commentary**
Display Title **English (ASS)**

Codec ASS
Language English
Title **Main (alternate)**
Display Title **English (ASS)**

Realized I probably posted this in the wrong place (under server), moving to players.

There’s actually a long-running feature suggestion for this…
