Audio sync issue

Server Version#: 1.16.2 on QNAP TS-453Be
Player Version#: 3.99.2? on Apple MacBook Air using Safari 12.0.2

I’m not sure if this is a PMS problem, a QNAP NAS problem, or a player problem, but audio sync is off.

Not sure by how much, but it’s definitely noticable and repeatable.

Source media plays fine in VLC Player.

Does anybody have an issue with this?

Thank you.

(P.S. 5GHz wifi has no issues. Local ping times to the QNAP NAS is about 1.780 ms. There is no stuttering or any other playback issue/effect that would indicate there’s an issue with the wifi.)

Instead of the web app, you should try the real “Plex media player” (download from below).
It can play a lot more media formats directly and thus avoid one common source of this delay.

But if there’s an issue with the web player, shouldn’t that be addressed? (or removed if they don’t want to address it?)

If I may augment Otto’s post,

Part of the diagnostic process is to remove “Web” players from the equation.
If there is no further audio sync problem then the further investigation with the Web player can be done.

At this point, it is unknown if a player (Safari & plex/web) or server (pms) issue.
While likely a player issue (Plex/web & Safari), it must be diagnosed.

Testing with FireFox on Mac would further assist that diagnostic process.

Will do. I will report back later on tonight.

Thank you.

So I finally got around to testing it and the audio sync issue is gone (with Safari and Firefox), but now it will randomly skip periodically.

Again, there is nothing (as far as I can tell from the statistics that I’ve collected whilst running the PMP) but the standalone player (rather than playing it through the browser) definitely seems to be working better.

Not sure what the root cause of the issue is and it’s very difficult to diagnose/collect statistics/data for without adding another layer of complexity into the mix, thereby corrupting the statistical data that would have been collected.
