Audiobooks and Sort Album - sort not working as expected

Plex Web 4.76.1

This one has been frustrating me for a couple of days.

I’ve been picking up the new Terry Pratchett audio adaptations as they’re released, and adding them to Plex. Being the pedantic sort that I am, I’d very much like them to appear in the correct order when I view them, and no matter what I add for Sort Album, it’s just plain not behaving.

The original Sort Album title was something along the lines of:
Book 5: Sourcery: Discworld
Book 37: Unseen Academicals: Discworld
Book 3: Equal Rites: Discworld

And that is the order in which they’re appearing. No matter what I change the Album Sort to, that order isn’t changing; I’ve tried with nothing but the numbers, and I’ve currently got it set to letters (AE, BK, and AC respectively.)

Is the sort being generated from something I just can’t see, or am I doing something wrong? I’d expect the order to be AC, AE, BK.

Pad the book numbers with leading zeros, so all sort titles use the same number of digits.

Good morning

Thanks for the reply. That was actually one of the things I’ve already tried, but forgot to include it in the post.

I’ve just tried it again, and it makes no difference. I’m still having things appear in the order:
1, 2, 5, 17, 37, 3, 6

Edit the Artist
what is set as “Album Sorting” on the Advanced tab?
You might want to set “by Name” there.

Well, I’ll be… I’d not even considered that I could edit the artist.

The Album Sort there was set to “Library Default”. Switching it to “By Name” did the trick!

Thank you!

If you have a whole library dedicated to audio books, you may want to set the album sorting for the whole library to “by name”.
Or maybe not.

I just did - thanks for the suggestion.

(The only question I have now is exactly what the library default order is, as apparently it’s nothing to do with alphabetical sorting. But that is entirely moot now, so…)

There is a difference whether you look at an artist (and its albums)
or at the whole library, set to Albums view mode.
