Australian DVR not Picking Up HD Channels?

Trying to set the DVR to record Masterchef and House Rules tonight for the other half of course, but having trouble with the EPG recognising the shows airing on the HD Channels.

I tried setting up in advanced options to record HD only, and even limited the Channel Selection to Ten HD for instance but it then shows no airings?

When in the advanced settings for recording MasterChef the channel selector gives the option of the HD Channel so there does appear to be an association of the show to that channel. But I’d really just like to limit recording to HD Only.

Anyone got suggestions, other than kicking off record when it starts?

Otherwise this new live functionality looks to be working pretty well with the HDHomeRun Connect.

I can see the issue is that the programs on the Aussie HD channels (eg Ten HD) don’t have the correct resolution on them, they come through as SD. I can see the relevant table entries and can do a post-process fix to the EPG tables, but I’m not sure how to trigger the update.

Obviously it would be better to fix at the source.

@kanine69 Ten HD definitely does work and record (I’ve been doing it myself for quite a while!), however, the guide data that Plex receives doesn’t state HD in the data, only SD. Hopefully this will change as data improves, but as a interim step (and what I do), you can just disable the SD versions of Ten, Nine, ABC, Seven, and SBS, then only have the HD versions available for recording. That way you’ll always get the HD version.

Yeah thanks, I came to that conclusion too, I left all channels enabled but just set it to only record the HD channel in the Advanced Recording settings. The result was outstanding I must admit.

I checked out the EPG database and it’s relatively trivial to update all the HD channel content so that it is recognised as HD. I’m going to work on an assumption that the EPG data is updated at 2am as part of the nightly maintenance and just run a sqllite update script around 6am over the guide data and see how well it sticks for now.

@kanine69 It does run as part of scheduled maintenance, but this does limit you if you decide to do a manual EPG refresh (I do several throughout the day to keep up with the way our channels keep changing air times). Why keep both the SD and HD versions of the channels around though? You just end up with duplicate data

@DaveBinM aren’t there sometimes scheduling differences between the SD/HD channels, for example when the Footie is on?

I’ve put together a little post process over the ICETV XML file to switch HD Channel programs to the “HDTV” setting, which seems to have altered quite significantly how the episodes show under "Shows’ in the EPG. It looks to favour HDTV over SDTV in that section now.

This is all just the OCD in me getting the better of me atm… But I’ll also do something to ensure a thumbnail is generated for every show as all the blanks drive me nuts lol

@kanine69 I thought all the scheduling was the same. Might be something to bring up with @colinoice to see if the guide can specify HD for the HD channels. You’re right about Plex favouring HD content too

You will see improved thumbnails and other metadata in the future. Plex is working towards improving that, but I’m not sure on a time frame yet.

Just a +1 on this, I get the same problem. One side effect is that in the program guide it only shows the SD version, but if I’m recording the HD then it seems to think in need to change channels to the SD to watch it, thus can’t start playback while recording. I’ll have to try disabling the SD channels - I thought they might be different to the SD version, but in checking they are now all identical (10,9,7,2,sbs).

Note it would be nice if could start playback while recording from the recording schedule screen, doesn’t seem to work for me (plex iOS app).
