Server Version#: PMS 1.16.5.1554 (running on Synology NAS RS818+)
Player Version#: 2.005 (running on Samsung SmartTV HG32EE690 (2015 model)
We have an issue with “Auto login last user and skip pincode” feature from the Plex app installed on our Samsung HG32EE690DB smart TV’s. If we enable this feature in the settings and power off the TV, it does not remember this setting and always ask for a login with a pin.
If you leave the TV on and only exit the Plex app it still works and uses the last logged in user. Only when you put the TV into standby and switch it back on it will lose the configured settings in the plex app.
I have read on the forums that this SW bug has been fixed in a newer version (V2.012) from the Plex app, but I am not able to download this version in the smarthub from the Samsung smart TV.
Any idea how we could get this newer version on the Samsung smart TV’s?
We use Plex server on our Synology NAS RS818+ and is listed in the authorized devices list.
Another option could be to add a specific IP or range to the allowed networks without authorization feature on the Plex server, which we tried, but unfortunately this also does not work. Does anybody knows if this feature works?
We have setup a fixed IP on the SmartTV and added this IP (172.16.52.44/255.255.255.0) to the " List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth" under network settings from the Plex server.
It sounds a bit odd, but you are in the wrong section. The “old” Smarthub app is placed onder Streaming Devices. You can download the 2.012 package from the last post here: From the Developers - If there is any news, it's in here!
Thank your for your reply. Not sure if I could install apps via USB, because it is a Hospitality SmartTV. Any idea where I could find instructions how to install apps manually in Smarthub? I can’t seem to find it here on the forum. Not sure if it is possible…
This might be the very reason for this behaviour. It might erase all preferences from installed apps intentionally.
Because the next person who switches on the device might be a ‘new guest’.
As far as I know just unzip the file to an USB stick, start the TV and insert the stick.
But I’m not sure this archive works the same. Alternative is to wait for the latest release in Samsung App Store
@rondol1 Thank you for the suggestion. I just had contact with Samsung support and unfortunately it is not possible to do updates via USB on hospitality TV’s. So we are stuck on this solution. So I guess @OttoKerner is right
Then the other option is to get this working:
Is there somebody who can confirm this feature works? In our setup I cannot get it working, but it might also have something to do again because it is a Hospitality SmartTV…
If you only want to exempt a single IP from authentication, you write it like this: 172.16.52.44
If you have two or three addresses, you write it like this: 172.16.52.44,172.16.52.46,172.16.52.49
(make sure to not write any space characters, or the whole line will get ignored and thus will be without effect)
And afterwards, you should stop and restart the server.
@OttoKerner Your solution worked for our 32" HG32EE690DB smartTV but unfortunately not for our 24" HG24EE690DB smartTV’s. It is weird because they both have the same Samsung FW version 1110.2. I can’t get it to work for this TV.
@OttoKerner Yes, of course I have contacted Samsung support and this their answer: " Please find an update from HQ below:
As cusomter mentioned, Plex 2.012 Version has been submitted to samsung but it doesnt mean that all samsung models is having that version. all model have different status but EE690 is allowed with only 2.005 Plex version. In order to upgrade version in EE690 model, CP ( Plex ) has to submit 2.012 version to that specific model. samsung doesnt update app version for all model by ourselves. version up action should be done by contents provider. I am afraid to telling you that EE690 cannot have 2.012 version. it will have only 2.005 vesrion. for version update, CP has to submit that version for EE690
I’ve requested if there can be a fw fix since you are not having any issues with the HG32EE690."
How are you quitting the Plex app?
Pressung the ‘SmartHub’ button on the remote is like yanking the power cord – i.e. a hard reset. The app may not store anything if you do it that way.
Apart from that, I’m afraid I can only tell you that development on the Plex app for Samsung <= 2016 has ceased. The developer has retreated due to health issues.
So there is no way that this can be fixed with an app update.
Via the “Exit” button or via the “Exit app” menu with the “return” button from the Samsung remote. If you leave the TV on and open the Plex app again it just works without login with a PIN code. The problem starts if you put the TV in standby or if you cut off the power.
