Server Version#: 1.15.4.993
Player Version#:1.020 and 1.019
Had problems with my sideloaded version of 1.019; the problem was that when selecting the app, it would perpetually spin and never start. Tried the unplug the TV for awhile, tried just about everything typical to this. Confirmed network connectivity was there (saw connection attempts by the TV in the logs)
The store version of the app has a bug where I attempt to set my login credentials for Plex, BUT, you can’t select below the "login to plex’ to actually set up your account. It defaults to empty credentials, and the login fails (because there is no credential set. And doesn’t allow you to set a credential.
I sideloaded 1.020 and it seems to suffer from the same issue, so my old bedroom TV seems completely blocked from Plex now
Is anyone else seeing a problem with this setup? I realize the app isn’t really supported, but am curious why this seemed to break suddenly. Only thing I haven’t done is a full factory reset.
I have exactly the same problem on a Samsung 2010. I have posted the problem yesterday. From what I seen on forum, problems were on other TVs too. Seems that the new server do not accept unsecured connections from old Plex apps… I do not know if is the way Plex chose to be or it is a bug that will be solved.
I have exactly the same problem on a Samsung 2011 46d7000. Can’t enter login credentials.
Tried to reinstall Plex app, reset SmartHub with no luck. Even tried local server IP settings in Plex app to find the local server with same no luck.
Having the same issue here. It was fine about a week ago. Samsung UN55D6900 Plex version 1.019. Also sent a tweet and was told to refer to forums. I replied with a link to this thread.
Orca gave up supporting this all beyond 1.019, and generously dropped 1.020 to fix some stuff. Don’t want to disparage someone who kept this going (been using his app for so long).
The reality is if Plex doesn’t support the app, they don’t have to make changes. Disappointing, but they have to move forward with what is in their business.
It speaks to one of the flaws of built in smart hubs coupling the screen to the compute; I literally want to trade up a perfectly good 46" to get this fixed. Ouch to the wallet.
Why do that? Spend less than $100 on a decent streaming device (Roku, FireTV, etc.) and get something that will be better supported than the apps in your TV. That’s one of the reasons I don’t use any of the built-in apps.
I agree, I’m definitely reconsidering how, but our #1 use case is ideally a single remote and a sleep timer that shuts the stream off (bedroom TV). Minimizing the number of devices is key for what I want; having just a flush mount slim TV on the wall is nice with the cabling in wall.
Roku doesn’t support a sleep timer (We put a show on autoplay and go to sleep), but could solve the single remote question. I dig their product and would use it elsewhere (on our big TVs I use an Xbox).
Definitely don’t want to mess with casting (has to be less technical for the wife). FireTV is the next one I’ll research.
After downgrading plex server, i was able to manually configure IP address on Samsung app and watch movies on TV.
Still, the app can’t register in plex account anymore…
Because Samsung and Plex do not support old line TVs (that are still working excellent!) I am turning to Roku right now…
Beside this last login problem, I have encountered many problems with unsupported codes lately…
Any ideas about Roku or similar devices?
