Currently, when you set up a show to record, you have the option of New or New and Repeats. Can we get an option for Missing From Collection? I don’t want to have to record every repeat episode of a show to get the few I’m missing. It would be much easier to just have Plex record the ones that are missing. I know you can set up individual episodes to record, but sometimes the ones you need are not in the guide yet.
Actually, if you’re recording to the library that has the episodes that you have already, Plex will not record episodes that you already have. It’s sort of their unspoken prime directive: Thou shalt not record any program that remotely looks like something you might already have.
So, I think it should already be doing what you want. This unspoken prime directive is actually a recurring frustration that many users have – it often prevents us from recording the programs we want to record when Plex incorrectly determines that you already have the item. And there is no way to override the prime directive – duplicates just are not allowed under any circumstances. It’s a big problem for sports (where one program may look like another) and shows like Saturday Night Live (they have an old episode during prime time and a new live show at 11:30).
Anyway, if this is not the behaviour you’re getting, then there are a huge number of users that would love to know how you’ve defeated the prime directive.
I don’t save them to the library. I have a special location I put them in so that commercials can be removed manually. I find that the automated removal of those cuts parts of the show off or leaves some of the commercials in the final file.
Normally, I have found, that if you use the New function, it only records items marked as new in the guide. If you use the New and Repeats, then it records everything. I would rather be able to record to any directory I want, but Plex should know what episodes are missing and only record those.

You might want to put this in the Feature Suggestions section so that Plex can ignore it there instead of ignoring here …
Also, note that a library can include multiple folders. You can record episodes to a special folder that you process yourself and still have the existing episodes that you already have in a separate folder in the same library.
My understanding is that Plex makes the “record/don’t record” decision at the library level and it won’t record an episode if it’s already somewhere in the library that you’re recording to.
So you might want to give that a try. You can add new folders to an existing library through the server settings.
