Is there a way to force plex record existing content?

I have readed lots of things about it from past today but looks like still no way to record existing content as copy-1 copy-2

Am i missing something how to do it ?

If Plex Media Server determines the airing for the scheduled recording is already in the library then it would not record it.

There is an option to handle better quality replacing lower resolution recordings

thank you for this but this is not most of people looking for, there may have lots of reasons why would we want to record repeats and do you think is there a way to force plex to record it?

maybe any script ?

We have the opposite - complaints about Plex Media Server unexpectedly recording again what is already in the library. This may happen f there are sequencing errors in the guide.

If you want an episode recorded again, what you need to do is move the media file out of the library, scan the library and empty the library trash and it will get recorded on next airing - you could move it to a temporary holding library and then purge it completely once you have secured a better recording

yes i read those posts but mostly because no healty epg and pms doesnt match the right episodes or seasons or something smiliar i belive.

and all those procsess doesnt make any sense for me unless all is on automatic.

so i wanna ask if is there any requesting about record repeats or plex consider to have ths feuture in future ?

This is the first time i come across this as a request

I will mention to the team but i do not see it going up the priority list of what features to bring in - but i have passed on your suggestion for the ability to do that

thank you and im gonna post here some of links soon who wants the same request as well.

i believe ā€˜record new and repeat airings’ is inculuding record repeats. not ignore

also you can see here it shows on grid as will record the episode and not giving any error or info to user let know this wont be recorded. thats a bug on my opinion

This is the same functionality as in set top boxes and they would not give you multiple recordings when you have the look for new and repeat airings. It would only get recorded the once

i will mention this. It is scheduled to record and this is checked periodically and if it is found in the library it will not then do the recording. I think it is right to leave it showing as scheduled - To remove it from the schedule early would be the wrong thing to do as the item may not be in the library by the time the airing happens

I will second this request. This has been a frequent headache for all the years I have owned Plex.
Coming from SageTV, Plex has several deficits, which together make this a mess.
First, the EPG seems to have a lot of errors — specifically dealing with new or special episodes. It has gotten better, but still problems. There is a way to report issues, but without any tracking, you have no idea if someone has looked at the report, and reports go unfixed.
Second, the guide doesn’t indicate which shows will actually be recorded (as noted by OP)
Third, there’s no arbitration or way to force the ā€œduplicateā€ recording. The suggestion to move the file out of the way doesn’t work for back to back episodes, and requires me to spend time scouring the upcoming recordings looking for errors — using someone else’s EPG…

If the EPG were perfect, this would be less of a problem, but it isn’t and can’t be. And without an easy way to fix the EPG, we need some kind of override.

Why not just allow the second recording and then hide the second one as an alternate file (this functionality is already built into Plex and already does this is multiple copies of the same episode are in the same folder).

I have raised this internally as a feature request

Thanks!

Another feature request would be some sort of tracking system for the EPG error reporting. Posted last week, still not fixed. No idea if anyone has even looked at it.

can’t find any posts from you from last week reporting a specific problem

Please give me a link. The only recent post was earlier in this thread

I used the Google Form (?) to submit and EPG error.
I thought that was the correct way based on other forum posts, but happy to use whichever method.

I have a backlog on the Google forms. Escalating here in the forum is best if not received a response. I have added your issue to one I raised yesterday concerning the Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood series
