Automatic Sign-In Option in General Settings for Plex Web 4.43.4 no longer available?

Server Version#: 1.20.4.3517
Player Version#: 4.43.4

As shown in my attached screenshot, I am no longer seeing the option for Automatic Sign In in the General Settings for Plex Web as indicated in the Plex Web Settings support article at https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289408-plex-web-app-settings/.
Does anyone know if this functionality been removed from the plex-web client? I looked through the release notes at Plex Web - #337 by chrishoage, but did not see anything suggesting this capability has been removed.

As of 6th November I have Plex Web as 4.46.2

It’s gone for me on

4.46.2 (app.plex.tv)
and
4.43.4 (hosted version)

What your OS please?

I am seeing the issue on OSX (Chrome and Firefox)

And it is also not there on an older version of PMP

Odd as I’m on Chrome MacOS 10.15.7

I am still on 10.14 on my Desktop

Let me just check the macBook… Nope not there on that either, that is running 10.15

I would be inclined to Download manually the PMS app and swap it out of applications and restart.

Have your cleared your Browser cache etc, and signed back in.

I don’t think it’s PMS as I have multiple PMS’s running, on Mac, Linux, Synology and docker.

And it is weird that it should have disappeared on PMP as well (tried signing out of there and back in, still gone)

The Automatic Sign In setting is only shown when the account is in a “Plex Home”.

Can you confirm for me that you have a “Plex Home” created?

And you must be signed into the account of the administrator/owner of the Plex Home.
A managed user is not allowed to change it.

Thanks for all the replies.

My macOS version is Catalina 10.15.7

I am running Plex web out of Safari 14.0

I only have one Plex user so I have NOT created a Plex home.

Given this last point from chris’s and otto’s helpful explanations in their replies above, it looks like I am stuck with having to login to Plex web each time I launch Safari. I know this was not the case in the past and I am sure there must be a good reason for this, but I have to say it does feel a little like a regression. Perhaps one day I will be pleasantly surprised and find it reinstated.

Thanks to all who helped me realize I wasn’t going crazy in not seeing it anymore.

That is an entirely different matter.
The automatic logon is for remembering the last-used member of your Plex home. Since you don’t have a Plex Home, it doesn’t apply here.

You might want to tell your web browser to not delete “cookies and website data” of the domain plex.tv when you close it.

Thanks for the suggestion Otto. I already have the Safari config set up such that it does not delete any Plex related cookies and website data but I still have to login each time I fire up Safari and go to my local Plex server URL (192.168.1.xxx:32400).

Doh, that explains it. I used to have a Plex home user set up but removed that user a while ago.

Given the capability used to exist for single userID users like me (who are unable to create a Plex Home), I just raised a Feature Request to reinstate the capability to set this option. The request is here if you would like to vote for it … Plex Web: Reinstate "Automatic Sign In" option in General Settings even when Plex Home is not being used

I don’t believe this ever existed. If it did, it was a bug. The purpose of the setting is to skip the “Choose Home User” screen when a home is enabled. It does have have any effect on the browser restoring your session.

This sounds like a bug, as that is not intended behavior.

Some questions:

  • Do you have this issue when using app.plex.tv?
  • Do you have this issue with any other browser?
  • Do you have any browser plugins in Safari?

Thanks for the follow up Chris.

I will take your advice on the option’s previous availability being a bug at the time etc, (even though it did indeed do exactly what it said on the tin … i.e. facilitate the automatic login following quitting Plex Web).

Either way that leads to your follow up questions to help diagnose if there is a current bug on restoring the login using cookies etc, without the settings option. So I just did some testing and …

Yes the issue occurs when I use the URL app.plex.tv instead of my servers LAN IP address and port 32400.

I installed Chrome and NO the issue does not occur when using either the server IP address or the app.plex.tv URL

The only Safari plugin I have installed is the 1Password extension.

I have been able to replicate this using Safari on 4 different Macs, including the Mac running PMS.

My Safari prefs are as follows:

Thanks, I’ll check with the team to see if anyone is able to reproduce. I don’t have Safari to check for myself.

However what you describe should not be happening. Last question is what version of Safari are you using?

Thanks Chris. I have Safari 14.0
