Backing Up Plex Media Server Data on a WD MYcloud home

hi,

I have a wd mycloud hom 4tb and for safekeeping, I want to make a backup of all my movie posters, collections,…

The installation is automated, you just click install on the webpage of the my cloud home webpage and it creates a plex folder where you put all the video files and with a link, you can linkt this server to your account.

I was searching for preferences.xml I taught that was the file needed to backup all thee movie posters/collections,… but I can’t find it anywhere.

Does anyone know what I need to take a backup from?

sincerely,

Laurens Wolf

Hello Laurens, the preferences.xml is stored in your plexi server data folder, not in your media file folder, if you are using, windows, mac o linux, yo need to find the plex server folder and there will be the file you are looking for. If you have linux server it very easy to make a backup.
Linux. The plex media server is installed in /var/lib/plexmediaserver

I have a serious problem with Plex & MyCloud Home. The server keeps either disappearing or being automatically disabled and I have to rebuild the entire database everytime this happens.

Only once it showed me the old server name and I claimed it, then I didn’t have to redo everything. Apart from this, every week I’m having this hassle now.

I’m making backup, however, there is no guidance on how to reach the backup & use it noting that I’m using windows10 & MyCloud Home 4TB.

Can Anyone help.

I am in the same boat as you! Sad to not see any replies to your question and only to see that the topic will close in 3 months after the last reply.

I am using windows 10 and a WD My Cloud Home Duo 8TB drive. I have experienced complete loss of my metadata on some Plex updates (thankfully not every update) and I end up having to rebuild the Plex Library.
Looking at the Plex settings for the My Cloud… under the Scheduled Tasks, it shows the location for the backup as:
/data/user/0/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases

But I can’t get to it from the Windows File Explorer.
If there is an actual backup at that location, the question would be: How do I restore my Plex Library from this backup?

Same problem here with a 3Tb MyCloud Home. Plex updated and lost all of the metadata. It has taken literally days for my content metadata to be rebuilt. I have backups and yet there is no instructions or UI options for restoring from it. Makes a backup pretty pointless if you can’t use it when you need it. I am running Windows 10 and would love to know how we are supposed to restore the backup when required. Anyone???
