Playback of DVR OTA recordings consistently do not play back correctly on multiple clients. When recording/watching Sunday Night Football (week after week), the playback on my nVidia Shield using direct play is “stuttery” such that it is not watchable. It’s like it shows two frames at the same time. Of note: in Plex, it shows the recording as 1080p…it is broadcast in 1080i and other shows on the same channel I record show as 1080i.
If I play back the same game on my LG TV, it starts playing normally, then the video speeds up to about 2x-3x while the audio lags behind. If I skip 30 seconds forward, it then plays normal speed for 3-5 seconds and then speeds up again. If I force it to transcode, it plays just fine on both clients. Some shows play back great using direct play on both clients. Others exhibit this or similar behavior.
Also of note, when I set up a windows server and use the same tuner playback shows the same issues on the clients.
