Best NAS drive for Plex Media Centre in a home?

Hi All,

I’m trying to set up a new NAS drive for use in our home. Can anyone recommend a reliable brand & model to use as I want to drive playback directly via Plex on the NAS drive.
I was going to get a WD My Cloud 4TB drive, but someone suggested they are no longer supported??

Don’t buy a Netgear Readynas with an ARM processor (RN214). No support from Readynas or Plex when an issue arises. I learned the hard way.

Hi Chenks -

  • Budget is AU$170 - $270
  • Storage capacity = 2TB - 4TB
  • Plex client devices = usually just 1 (Apple TV in AV lounge)
  • Transcoding not usually required
  • Subtitles sometimes essential depending on dialogue or genre

PS: I’ve been paying for Plex Pass but I don’t think I need it as all I do is play something from our movie library.

Fair feedback. On review our planned usage is limited compared to others and a reflection of the fact that we have been using legacy WD NAS drives with lesser capability. I guess that whatever current model we migrate to our user experience will lift dramatically.
