Best practice setting up a new server

Server Version#: current
Player Version#: current
I’m want to set up a new Plex server to replace my current one. I want to change things around a bit, so I’m not interested in bringing over all the settings, watch histories etc. It’ll be just like I’m setting up a server for the first time.
What should I do with & regarding my current server before I retire it?

If you want to keep watched state, enable Keep Watch State & Ratings for your account.

It is an account, not server setting. Anyone you share with should enable it as well.

You do not have to transfer anything from the old server to take advantage of the feature.

Whatever you want. Plex servers are independent of each other.

Turn it off, leave it running as a test / emergency backup server, re-purpose for another use, etc.

If you retire it as a Plex server, then, once retired, remove it from your list of Authorized Devices. This will remove it from your Plex account (instead of showing up as an offline server).

You may also need to unpin old server libraries from the home page on your clients (and pin libraries from the new server).

Can you expand on what you mean by changing things around a bit?

Why do you need a new one?

Just the way a few things are configured. It’s time to change a few things around from how they were when I first set up a plex around 10 or more years ago. I have no desire to keep the watch history or anything else & am happy to go with a totally fresh setup.

I have noticed over the years as I have setup new Plex servers that remnants of the previous set up have lingered & so this time I want it to be totally fresh, as if it was the first time I’d used Plex Server.
