I’m trying to figure out a silly issue where I have 502 directories containing shows, but only 486 shows actually appearing in Plex. I’m very scrupulous about organizing my media, and even wrote a script to rename files from arbitrary numbering formats to SXXEYY.
In the Movies library, there’s the option to filter to show duplicates but I’m not seeing something similar in TV Shows. My concern is that some shows are coming up as duplicates even though they’re not actually so. Only 3 things come up in “unmatched”, and those are YT shows that don’t have entries in thetvdb, so that’s fine.
If I change Plex to the “folders” view, I do see all 502 folders.
I checked out the possible solutions here (Why is some of my content not found? | Plex Support), and none of them seem to fit the bill. I reasserted permissions on everything just in case, and I searched for any archive files or unsupported extensions and found nothing other than some packed subs.
Is there any fast way to figure out the discrepancy, other than manually going through all 500ish folders and correlating them (or not) to what’s displayed in the TV Shows library?
Thanks!

Are you sure you haven’t put some of them into a collection and then switched your library to show the collection poster(s) alone?
The item count at the top only counts visible posters.
You can quickly check this if you set the sorting order to something else than “by Title”. Because collections can only appear “in line” in the “by Title” sorting order.
Second idea:
Look at the preplay page of shows which have a similar title. See if you can find the “Split” menu item under the ellipsis . . . of that show.
(You must be at the absolute top level of the show. The fastest way to get to that level is to click on the show’s title. Careful with single-season shows!)
If it is present, it means that Plex used episodes from several top folders and merged them into the same show.
I’ve got the same number of shows regardless of the sort order, and if I go to view collections I have none (which is intentional).
The Split option is definitely a good one, but I went through and looked at similarly-titled shows and they’re all there separately in the posters view.
I also did a “du -sh” on the directory containing the shows, btw, and all directories have a size in the multi-gigabyte range, so I don’t have any empty folders either.
