Beta for the new Audio Player on the Android mobile

Perhaps a catlog? For further debug.

Well I’m not sure LTE is the cause here. As you can see, when I pull down the notification bar, the network speed is displayed, and there is almost no activity when there should be. I experienced this 4 times today. Only resolution was to reconnect to wifi, or toggle airplane mode on and off.

Update on cast not progressing to next track: seems to happen only with radio stations. Playing a static Playlist, the tracks progress normally while casting.

Hi everyone. New plex pass user here. Finally jumped the gun after the release of what seems to be the long waited for update to plex music capabilities.
Have been testing the beta app on my galaxy s8+ for the last two days. Here are my findings.

When I remote play a flac song that gets transcoded according to my quality settings the web interface doesnt show it under now playing. Songs that are direct play are shown.
Under music quality dindnt we have the option to choose the bitrate for cellular networks? Now its use low quality on cellular only?
On Samsung phones you have some options for the facewidgets on your Always On Display. If I turn on the music controller widget for my aod the standard plex notification/widget disappears from my lockscreen. Doesnt happen with other media apps. Also after a couple of songs the widget gets stuck and becomes unresponsive. Even after I restart my phone the display still shows the song information of when it got stuck.
I have no lyrics in centext menu. Does it only show up when there are lyrics or should it be greyed out if there are not?
UI looks good but do we really need the jump 10sec and 30sec buttons for music? Why not a add to favorite playlist button, star button, …
It baffles me how its still not possible to just simply resume from where you left off on different devices.

Other than that I had no issues. Handover from wifi to cellular works, downsampling/transcoding works, lockscreen media buttons work, headset controls work, flac files play without issues, remote player works, …

1 - known issue
2 - the music quality affects all remote connections
3 - We haven’t tested this. I have a Samsung phone so I’ll see if I can reproduce.
4 - The lyric feature hasn’t been added in yet.
5 - Some people have things other than songs in their music libraries and having the -10/+30 is useful. Plex doesn’t have a favorite/star feature. You can make a feature request for it, although I think something like that has already bee requested.
6 - Resume works for me. Did you enable the setting for your library to remember the track position?

I suspect what’s being asked for here is a way to remember playlist position across devices, not just track position. As far as I know, the former doesn’t yet exist, while the latter is a library setting (as you said).

2 - the music quality affects all remote connections

Can you explain please. Under settings, quality, music quality I have two options. Remote streaming I can choose a bitrate but this option is for all music played remotely. And I have the option to use low quality on cellular.
I like to direct play when I’m on wifi and to transcode when I’m on cellular. I think to remember that I used to be able to set a bitrate for each individually. Now it’s 128kbps opus only on cellular

Resume like you mean it works for me. No problems there. But like @dgw said I’m looking for resuming across devices. Like when I commute I use my phone to listen to a mix and when I’m at my PC I can simply resume from where I left off on my phone.

So please make a separate feature request for that (https://forums.plex.tv/c/general/feature-suggestions), this thread is about ensuring we haven’t borked anything in the new Audio Player before we release it to the public

Can you explain please.

We previously only had the option to select a remote streaming quality, which was the same for cellular and WiFi (i.e. we only had the first setting under the Music quality heading). We recently added the option to use a lower quality on cellular. We have never provided an option for setting specific streaming qualities for WiFi and cellular.

I have no lyrics in centext menu.

Lyrics should be working if you have a Plex Pass and your music library has matched/downloaded the lyrics.

Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for the bug reports @Daimyo/@dgw , we’ll look into these issues.

I am still having issues with the shuffle button randomly just not being there in the new player. I’ve tried a bunch of things, but can’t seem to find reproducible steps. The button is missing about 80% of the time. It is not specific to an album or artist, as it will show up, and disappear for the same album.

Here is one example. Anything I can do to try and help track this down?

@marcjt it may be related to the location from where you are starting playback, could that be the case?

So, if I’m understanding what you’re meaning, I don’t think so… I only have my music stored on one server, and always play from it.

When I’ve done my testing I was on LTE at the same two geographical locations (work and home) and that’s when it’ll appear and disappear randomly. At home I’ve also tested it with WiFi playback, and seen the same issue, as well as, with synced content.

Ooops, I can see how that was an ambiguous question, apologies. I meant are you starting the playback from a playlist, or an album, or a hub etc?

Woot! Thanks for asking that question… I just played around (some more, and paying more attention) and it seems that, as far as I can tell, with a little more testing, the shuffle button is only missing when starting an album with the yellow button at the top of the album view (see below). When I play from artist, or track from the “Popular Tracks” section, or from individual song in an album, the shuffle control shows up. Somehow, I didn’t catch that until you just asked… SMH

I almost only ever play a full album with that yellow button, so that must be why I only occasionally am seeing the shuffle button.

Can you try to reproduce?

Edit: Also, shuffle doesn’t show up, for me, in “Radio” playlists… (Excluding the “Plex Mix” playlist) Is this by design?

That is by design, all the Plex clients have the same behaviour in this case.

Silly Question, how do you get the Beta version to test? Would love to give it a try.

Many thanks in advance

Details are higher up in the thread.

Plex uses the same APK for phones and Android TV, I think, so joining the “Android TV” beta is really just joining the “Android” beta.

Check, Thank you.

is it by design that we can’t click on the Genre label like Electronic or Pop so we can discover what else is in that genre?

The genre isn’t displayed in the Audio Player. If you have feature requests please make them here: https://forums.plex.tv/c/general/feature-suggestions

Thanks!

Some more fixes
