[BETA] New Plex TV Series Scanner

Thanks for clearing that up. I am going to try the new TV agent later today. I understand that people who actively make contributions would feel like their contributions are valued, which isn’t the case at all. But I can see the value in having static and centrally controlled actor images which don’t change on a daily basis as well.

As indicated previously, the on-deck history was cleared when I updated the metadata with the new agent. However, all videos that we play post-update are showing in on-deck. Except for the change to the beta agent, my library settings were not changed,

Yep, that’s definitely not the expected behaviour and I cannot really see why it’s happening for you. As this isn’t a critical issue and you’re the only person that’s reported it I won’t be able to spend any more time investigating it but will revist if I do get more reports. Thanks for helping out by providing the logs and database, saved me a lot of time.

The new agent now ignores work people have put in on the sites

You say that it wouldn’t be appreciated if people saw the work they had put in on the sites ignored, but then you do the same thing with all the metadata

Why are you ignoring the data entered my myself and many others on tvdb?
After years of updating this site, this change to now ignore it is not appreciatd

From all I can see, the classic TheTVDb agent will still be around.

I added these to TMDB 10 days ago:

Yesterday - this is the best I could do - new agent in a brand new (test) library with old shows (complete shows) purged and cleaned before a brand new addition:

Some are there, some are from somewhere else, some are MIA.

…in case there are any questions:

FileBot works for me - I don’t work for it.

Thanks for the report. I’ll file this and see what Adriana says tomorrow.

I just did a little test with the show Fraggle Rock.

When selecting the new Plex TV Series Beta agent and using TheTVDB for episode ordering, the artwork from TMDB isn’t downloaded. It would be useful if the choice of ordering agent didn’t impact access to artwork.

My apologies - I shouldn’t have jammed this issue into this thread. I didn’t realise it at first, but it’s not related to the BETA Scanner. This crash appears to be caused by an issue that sa2000 helped me to diagnose a few weeks ago. What seems to happen is that if you leave PMP 2.x paused on an audio track for an extended period (like 24+hrs) it fills the com.plexapp.plugins.library.db with some data that greatly expands its size. In this event, mine went from ~600MB to ~3.5GB. This is what seems to cause the memory exhaustion and crash.

So sorry to waste your time. I should have dug into the crash scenario a little more first.

As mentioned before, I have suspended my daily metadata backups to see if that stops the slow scanning issue. I feel like I’ve seen this slow scanning issue before, so it may not be particular to the BETA Scanner. I’ll let you know what happens over the next few days.

Which artwork are you specifically referring to? Season posters will currently always be specific to the source ordering you pick.

Having a problem with theme music. The problem is, I can’t find an option to not automatically download theme music. I have always found the theme music provided by Plex is way too loud, so I add my own if I particularly want a theme played.

I was sure there was an option when I first set up the library, (which was enabled) but I can’t find it now. The closest I can find now is the option to find “extras” I seem to recall disabling the download of theme music when I realized it was happening…

I’m sure I can just add my own theme.mp3 to the affected series, but I don’t know how many have been added already without going through the library series by series.

@drzoidberg33 did you happen to have a chance to look into dinotopia issue I reported above. Coming up on two weeks now since updates into TMDB and nothing coming into plex.

Me either - and I too recall seeing that somewhere…

Anywho - the Roku and the new HTPC App (Beta) have a great theme music setting: “Quiet” - Led Zeppelin (et.al.) has insured I can barely hear that and it’s just about right…lol

Yeah, but it don’t work when 98% of your theme music is at a normal level, and the gosh-darned downloaded ones are 3 times as loud. In effect, it pretty much makes the normal audio level themes (my own) unavailable. Sigh, I’ve got used to taking on and off my second set of eyes, now I need a hearing aid with an auto-adjust…

You only have one pair of glasses?
Young people want everything handed to 'em…

one pair on the coffee table in front of the TV, others scattered throughout the house and anywhere else I think I may need them.

Just a quick question. Is this new beta agent much slower than the existing one? I have a folder of 272 TV series. I started the scan last night and now, a little over 10 hours later, it has managed to scan in 96 of them. I’m including the logs in case you want them.

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-03-23_09-33-48.zip (6.5 MB)

No there isn’t any option to disable it on the server as it has already has a client-side toggle.

Could you tell me exactly which metadata fields you’re referring to?

No, it should be a bit faster in most instances.

I can see in your logs (thanks for those) that your system is really struggling with slow database access.

It looks likes you’ve added a new TV library, do you have an existing TV library still on that server?

Is the server, and specifically the database, installed to an SSD or just a regular hard drive?
