I do have an existing TV library on that server.
Database and server are on an SSD but it is an old server so the SSD is going through a SATA connection so it isn’t as fast as it could be. It used to be on a hard drive but as the server grew, the amount of space the server took up also grew so I had to swap it out for a bigger SSD about a year ago.
This miniseries Dinotopia (TV Series 2002-2002) — The Movie Database (TMDb). I renamed the series title from season 1 to miniseries and for each episode the Directed by and Written by has now been populated with values. These where missing before from TMDB and are still missing in plex.
How large is your database currently? By adding a new library and adding to the already existing libraries it will increase the size of the database quite significantly, especially when adding TV.
Things will start to get slower the more the database grows but your logs seem to indicate that it’s much slower than it should be for an SSD.
Thanks, have filed this one.
how large in gigs? Big. 239 gig.
Number of shows, seasons and episodes is more significant.
That is a big Database, so you have Video previews activated?
272 series. 14,599 episodes.
don’t know seasons.
no, not a big fan of video previews. Actually I would LOVE them but they eat up too much space and I just have a 1TB drive
It took about 20 minutes for my 6500 epsiodes (320 shows). But I did move intro detection into the maintenance period.
If you add all of those shows at once, it is perhaps not optimal to let it perform the intro detection for all of them immediately.
I don’t have video thumbnails or intro detection turned on.
Whoa! How much free space is left on your plex data volume? Some SSDs have the habit to become much, much slower when they’re occupied above ~70 – 80%
I have to agree with Otto, I have Intro detection activated and it takes a overnight to complete. Your Database is still very large.
Did you at one time have Video previews activated with that database?
600 gig free on a 1 TB drive
This is a brand new library I created to test the new agent. No previews or intor detection were ever in it.

New Plex installation or are there also other (older) Plex libraries on it?
Since this is drive C: there must be also some Windows cruft.
I don’t have any other installs of PLEX and this server is dedicated to PLEX. It is all it does.
Dell Precision T5500
Xeon X5650 2.66 Ghz six core procesor
18 gig RAM
This was a server my company didn’t need anymore so I took it so it wouldn’t just go to the dump. (imagine that)
I also took a Synology 12-bay DS2413+ that they didn’t want either.

Impossible to say what it does and what’s causing this load, except when you have logs.
Which I sent earlier above.
![]()
Is that the database itself or the entire Plex library folder?
That’s the PLEX Media Server folder.
What in there is the database, I’ll measure that.
I did a database export and the zipped file is 521 meg. Unzipped 2.45 gig
