[BETA] New Plex TV Series Scanner

Those are all classified as movies:

So they should be in a movie library.

How do you have your files named, this should work fine if you have the year included in the path, e.g.

/tv/Poldark (1975)/...
/tv/Poldark (2015)/...

Same, add the year to both paths to differentiate the shows.

Same.

I have a similar issue but the other way around

  • Amazing Stories
  • Amazing Stories (2020)

Shown correctly as two different shows, but both named in Plex “Amazing Stories”

  • The Twilight Zone
  • The Twilight Zone (2019)

Shown correctly as two different shows, but both named in Plex “The Twilight Zone”

There are also Perry Mason and a couple other shows which are not differentiated in the Plex titles. I remember this being mentioned in the known issues in the beta agent.

Are you just referring to how they are displayed? This is a known issue, but it’s not particularly high priority at the moment as shows are easily distinguishable by their posters and there are unfortunately other more important issues we want to get resolved first.

I was addressing concerns with incorrect matching in my previous response. This should easily be fixed by adding the year to the folder name.

Yes, correct.

No problem. As you say, they can be differentiated by their posters. I can certainly live with it.

Otherwise, the new agent is working great!

I really wish this thinking was applied more broadly across the UI. So many labels (up to three rows?!) and always displayed even on TV apps with selection hover states. At least cut it down to a single row when the client supports scrolling labels like Plex on Apple TV. I actually really like how the Plex labels are presented in the Apple TV home shelf.

I am having issues with the TV scanner not seeing my content with the log showing [0x7fac22922780] ERROR - IsDirectory failed boost::filesystem::status: Permission denied: . I am on linuix server Version 1.22.1.4228. I have the same permissions set up on my movies, but the scanner works fine for movies. This only happened when I upgraded from an older version of plex. I have permissions set at 0777 for both the movies and tv shows. Do you need just the scanner log?
Plex Media Scanner.log (310.8 KB)

Please provide some server logs.

Yep, it says it doesn’t have permissions.

What do the file and folder attributes look like for the files inside /var/hda/files/tv/? Check that both the parent folders and the files inside have the correct permissions.

/var/hda/files/tv/ is root:root 0777. The folders and files in side are all 0777. With a variety of owners root:root 0777, plex:plex 0777, apache:users 0777, and my user account to see if any worked, but none do.

I would open a separate thread and maybe somebody can help with this but it’s not specifically related to the beta TV agent as the errors are occurring before it gets to the new agent and scanner code.

As a side note, I would avoid just blanket chmod’ing 0777 to everything and set up correct user permissions for your folders. Then give the plex user read or read/write access to these paths.

Thanks, I opened permissions up to eliminate that as a variable.

New episodes of Falcon and Winter Soldier and For All Mankind have missing metadata…

TMDB has the info: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Miniseries (2021) — The Movie Database (TMDB)

TMDB has the info: For All Mankind: Season 2 (2021) — The Movie Database (TMDB)

@agneev this always happens and is normal with shows that have just aired. Wait 24/48 hours and then refresh. There is a lag between when updates are made to imdb, tvdb or tmdb getting to the plex cache servers so you need to be patient.

EDIT: actually, you don’t even need to refresh – the nightly butler task will detect it was a show which recently aired and auto refresh for you.

Plex’s cache should update every half hour or so for recently released episodes like this.

Yep, and especially with these shows where they only get titles when they “air”. Most other traditional network shows have titles in advance so those are already available.

You also shouldn’t need to do anything if you have the “Refresh library metadata periodically” scheduled task enabled.

I hope these settings are correct:

Yep, that will refresh all the new episodes during the scheduled window so it will pick up missing metadata without you having to go in and manually refresh things.

Probably is more accurate to say, hope these settings are correct for you

I have all of these turned on as its what I want my server doing during its maintenance.

Adriana tracked this issue down and a fix went out yesterday, it looks to be resolved but let me know if you still see any issues.
