[BETA] New Plex TV Series Scanner

Would it be possible in some future update to have language scoped at the show level rather than the entire library ?

As an example, I have my language set to English (United States) which then sets the show name per that language setting. 99% of the time this is okay but not always.

Using show SeaQuest DSV this has an alternative name set to SeaQuest 2032 for United States.

The only way to fix currently is to change the language in the library which then effects everything in the library. Would be nice to be able to control this per show. Changing to Use original title also does not work (at least in this example).

You can already do that :smiley:

Edit the Show → Advanced → Metadata Language.

Doh. Thanks, skipped right passed it.

I use the EPG from Plex.
A fresh recorded Show is correct titled but when i do a new rescan of metadata plex replace the correct title with “Episode 2” ect.

Thanks, could you send me your logs?

EDIT: Done a full plex dance with the show which resolved this problem. Guess something in the system/database was locked somehow. Anyhow, issue is resolved.

Anyone else having problems getting The Transformers (1984) to match the specials correctly ? For me they keep getting added to S01 as duplicates.

I’ve attached logs and how the files are named on disk. TMDB ordering is used.

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-03-03_13-27-12.zip (5.5 MB) transformers.txt (9.9 KB)

It’s been years and they keep saying it’s on the list of things to do but I’m pretty sure that list is in a bottom draw in a basement cabinet and someone’s lost the key.

So i have a series called De Club van Sinterklaas. In TMDB the seasons have namings, but in Plex new agent just shows Season … . Is this behavior correct for now/ is this issue known?

I think I found your issue. If a show was created from a DVR recording and you add files to that show from outside the DVR process then we were rematching the entire show and if you had something that couldn’t easily be matched then it would result in it not having the metadata for episodes.

I’m already testing a fix for this which will make it work like the old agent and you just wont get metadata for items added from outside the DVR, but it will retain the metadata from the EPG.

Sorry, we don’t yet have translations for season titles/summaries yet. I’ll add that to the known issue list.

Ah okay thanks.
But i have also many shows only recorded from the dvr, that have the same issue.
The DVR named the episodes correctly but do i a metadata refresh it wont found the episodes title

Well I hope they fully implement this across the board and fix the error when clicking on a cast member. Almost every show has a variable cast list per episode, and I would love to be able to finally find shows/episodes that an actor/actress had a random cameo in (Jimmy Fallon in Band of Brothers, Robin Williams in Friends, etc.)

TMDB provides per-episode cast lists, so I would love to see this pulled into Plex and be searchable.

Agreed – think it might be coming at some stage but not sure when. Normal show level cast list needs to be resolved first anyhow which is one of the current limitations.

Something is causing us to detect new episode files inside these folders which is why this is happening. The fix I’m implementing will just ensure that if the show was recorded from DVR that we don’t make changes to its metadata, which should still fix your issue.

Some episodes are pulling in TheTVDB rating when the library is set to use The Movie Database.

Within a single show, some episodes have TMDB and other episodes have TVDB. Refreshing metadata for the entire show or for a single episode doesn’t change the rating.

I brought this up when it was in alpha. Basically if there is no rating for an episode it will fall back to the next source. So TMDB probably has no rating from this episode so it’s taking the one from TVDB.

^ This.

A lot of newer shows just no longer have ratings on TVDB. I’ve found using TMDB for ratings is far more consistent so I’d stick to that setting.

@anon5074910 TMDB has the episode rating. I linked to the exact episodes on the TMDB website above.

@drzoidberg33 I am using TMDB ratings. The issue is it is showing TVDB when it should be showing TMDB.

Another question. Why do some episodes have multiple tvdb:// guids?

24: Legacy > Season 1 > Episode 1:

<Guid id="imdb://tt5348488"/>
<Guid id="tmdb://1199964"/>
<Guid id="tvdb://5649461"/>
<Guid id="tvdb://5677859"/>

tvdb://5677859 is correct, but what is tvdb://5649461?

https://thetvdb.com/series/24-legacy/episodes/5677859

Or episodes with missing guids.

24: Legacy > Season 1 > Episode 12:

<Guid id="imdb://tt5350174"/>
<Guid id="tvdb://5903147"/>

There is no tmdb:// guid for that episode.

I assume you’re using the TVDB episode ordering? This looks like some issue with the episode merges. I’ll file an issue for @adriana to take a look at.
