This is slightly strange and I am scratching my head. I have some binaural files which I have uploaded to my Plex server. If I play these on my phone (streamed from my server) they play just fine BUT if I attempt to stream direct to my Denon amplifier, instead of music, I just get white noise. I am at a loss as to what would cause this or what I can try to resolve it. Any suggestions?
Inspect the plex media info and determine which audio codec is in these files.
It reports PCM. I am guessing this is something to do with the amplifier not decoding for some reason, so this is probably completely the wrong place to ask what it could be!
There is nothing to decode with PCM, as this is the most basic format there can be.
What type of Plex client is this about? If it’s “Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux” or “Plex HTPC” what are the settings under Audio for “HDMI passtrough”?
Is this content from “naked” audio files or an audio track inside a video container?
Plex on Linux (latest version). The files are .wav (downloaded as such from Jean-Michel Jarre). I don’t think there is any containers if it’s just a .wav. In the web interface I can’t see any reference to “HDMI Passthrough” (I tried a search as well). As this is a Linux server though and it’s streaming via the network I don’t think that’s relevant. I have contacted Denon to ask as well as it’s rather odd it does work to my other devices. I may try turning on verbose logging and just see if anything is logged!
I have taken a look at the logs - it’s interesting that the Plex Client on my phone (which plays just fine) does not create an entry in the “Plex DLNA Server” log but when I stream using the Denon Heos app this log contains a message Track01_AGORA_BIN - audio.bitrate limitation applies: 2304 > 288 so that may help me to home in on the problem. More to come I am sure!
OK, it’s nothing to do with Plex or any settings. As soon as I connected my phone direct to my amplifier, it played the music just fine. So it would seem to be something amiss with the Denon Heos set-up although outwardly there appears no way of “fixing” it.
