I’m running Plex Server from a Terra-Master NAS. When I play music over the network from Plex, there is loud static, like tuning between AM radio stations ( you remember AM radio, right?). I can hear the music playing, but the static drowns it out. Any ideas?
Some clients are not compatible with some audio formats, and you receive noise instead of Plex transcoding the audio. It does not happen often, but you may have run across one such incompatibility.
The mobile app on my android phone screams like a wild banshee when I try to play MP3 music and has done so for YEARS.
It’s really odd, cause my phone plays MP3s without issue - until I try to play one in the Plex App. Plex never even tries to transcode - it just passes screaming banshee audio.
I stopped trying to use it long ago. You get that a few times in the headphones and that’ll pretty much cure you of that urge.
Just listened to the files on my Moto G5 plus. I don’t hear any noise.
Is volume-levelling in the Plex app activated?
Were the files analysed for loudness in Plex? (look at the Plex media info)
I noticed that the files have both replaygain and mp3gain tags in them. I wonder if they play a role in this issue.
If you can, make a copy of the album without these tags and try to play that as well.
I have done all that until I’m blue in the face - no effect.
Christone came from Amazon - I tried it in it’s raw state - same thing - the audio was a bit low so I put it through MP3-Gain to bring it up with everything else.
EVERY SINGLE MP3 - that goes through Plex has great Banshee Audio - EVERY SINGLE MP3 that doesn’t go through Plex - sounds fine.
I gave up trying, trying to report it, and adding to already existing reports - when it became clear, after a year or two, Plex is simply unable, or unwilling to fix it.
Nor do I - when I play it on anything except my phone - the current phone, or the previous phone. No such issues in Plexweb, Roku App, FireTV App (Call Ripley), or anything else.
I can’t find that setting - so it’s default is what it’s doing.
I have no idea where to find that info - nor does it matter 'cause 1 second after it hits Plex - Banshee. Only on the phone.
Ran a quick test with a 96/24 FLAC 2.0 music file.
The file direct plays via FireTV Cube & FireStick 4K. The problem from last May is fixed.
Also direct plays via Nvidia Shield (this always worked).
Will not play via Plex LG client. Gives message “Error code: h3 (Decode)” on-screen. 44/16 FLAC does direct play.
