Black Screen: PS5 playback error

On my PS5 when I go to watch certain episode of a show it just pops up as a black screen and it never loads but if I try on my phone or computer there is no issue. What is going on and how do I fix it?

I had this same issue and had to uninstall/reinstall the PS5 app. But now I am unable to rewind or fast forward. Also, when playing a file from the beginning, it will stop and buffer forever after about 15 minutes of playback. After that, I have to back out, play again. Then the same thing will happen after that every 3-5 minutes. The app has become almost completely unusable.

I am having the same issue with live TV DVR content. Ripped movies seem to stream fine. This is only affecting the PS5 client as well. Uninstall/reinstall the app did not correct the issue either.

Been having this problem since PMS 1.25 for regular TV shows on a NAS. Reinstalling the PS5 app does not help. The only way to fix it is by downgrading PMS to 1.24. This only affects the PS5 app, other clients play fine.

I have the same issue on PS5 since the last server update. I’m only seeing a black screen after the initial buffering. There is no progress shown on the playback bar. On the server I can see the video track is progressing on the playback bar on the dashboard. This only affects the PlayStation app. There is no issue with playback through a web browser, the Windows Store app, Google Play app, or Roku app.

Does anyone have a fix or an update on this issue? This was reported over two weeks ago and there doesn’t seem to be progress on a fix reported.

I’m having this same issue, but for some reason movies work perfectly fine. Tv shows go black like the buffering won’t start. This is only for my local server. Remote files work fine, it’s so strange why movies work but tv shows won’t. This is on the latest PS5 firmware, updated today.

I am also having this problem. On all other devices it plays just fine.
Only the Ps5 that has this issue.

The workaround I have had is to playback at lower quality. But since this is affecting videos that already has pretty low quality, this isn’t rly an option in the long run.

Having big problems on PS5. Can no longer watch things on it. Can see all the info for stuff, but can’t watch it.

Having this same problem only fix is to lower quality or change the Burn Subtitles option from “Automatic” to “Only Image Formats”. This has the side effect of making certain shows subtitles very messy to read. It’s almost been a month and still nothing on this issue and it’s getting annoying now.

I see that some people have mentioned lowering the playback quality as a workaround to get the videos to play. I just want to add that most of the videos I am having issues with are already low resolution and cannot be adjusted to play at lower quality.

I’m using plex server version 1.25.5.5492 and it’s working fine, try downgrading your server.

Sounds like a possible temporary workaround, but as the PS5 app is the only one having this issue they just need to update the PS5 app. Honestly, I don’t know what they haven’t already.

Yeah I’ve been stuck on 1.24 for months now. Crazy that this is still an issue.

I just downgraded my server a couple of days ago and now I don’t have this issue.
BUT! We shouldn’t have to do that.
Can’t belive this is still an issue that doesn’t seem to get fixed by the team.

Well what sucks is that I’m on Truenas and its really hard to rollback an upgrade.

For some reason this does not effect .mkv formats. So right now I have to reencode all my .mp4 and older stuff.

Has anyone checked if this has been fixed with the latest update? I don’t wanna install the update yet before I have confirmation that they have fixed the issues :stuck_out_tongue:

I downgraded PMS from version 1.26.0.5715 to 1.25.5.5492 and the not working files with black screen are working again.

I downgraded to 1.24 and it now works. When will Plex fix this â– â– â– â–  while they take our money.

Well, the file system on my server had an catastrophic failure and I lost all my content. I see no need to setup a new Plex server. Good luck to everyone else.
