Ok I have searched the forums and the only info I find on this is old. I am curious what to do with bonus material from movies. Is there a certain way to tag or organize my folder structure similar to ‘specials’ for TV Shows?
Bueller…Bueller…anyone?
As far as I know there is nothing to import metadata for special/bonus features that might only be on a Movie or TV show DVD. Basically if you can’t find it on theTVDB or theMovieDB then it can’t import metadata. I don’t know if anyone has come up with a solution besides making a Personal video section where you can tag them yourself manually
There’s currently no official/supported/whatever way to handle that sort of “ancillary” content. I’m pretty sure it’s somewhere on the roadmap to get implemented eventually, but I have no idea where it’s at priority-wise.
Most people tend to handle it either with a separate library section as BigWheel alluded or else simply scan the material in as separate entries in the main library. In the latter case, the items could likely be matched the same as the main movie and thus you might have to right-click and “Split” it in the Media Manager and adjust the metadata for the ancillary content yourself.
Dang guys…thanks for the response. I don’t guess I had subscribed to this thread so I did not know anyone had replied. So basically I would need to create a ‘Extras’ folder and add it as a separate section? I can do that :)…I wouldn’t say this should be high priority for the developers. I was just curious.
I just place the extras in the same folder as the movie; you just sacrifice metadata. Label each file accordingly. For instance, I have 4 files in the “Insidious” movie folder:
Insidious.mkv
Insidious-Making of.mkv
Insidious-Enitities.mkv
Insidious-Cast interviews.mkv
In your PMS, if scanned properly will look like this:
Notice the #4 on the Insidious cover (represents # of files in folder). When you click on the movie to watch, a popup screen will appear. Each file will show by it's resolution (720p, 1080p, etc.). Unfortunately, as far as I know there's still no way to label the files so you know which is which, but it's not that big a deal. A lot cleaner than numerous folders with no metadata. Somewhere in the wiki is more info, but it's not that complicated. Cheers.
Edit: I'm still using 9.3.4; assume it's the same for Laika.
I would be nice if Plex could attach something to the popup so users can identify which file is which. Perhaps display one of the metadata tags?
Do you lose the metadata for the movie file as well? Does selecting the movie (with the "4" showing) at least show you the names of the files?
It's just as I stated, files are listed by resolution. Main movie metadata is intact.
Gotcha - Sorry for the misunderstanding.. Yeah, I tried this, and when there are 10-15 bonus features, this doesn't really work all that well! :-)
What I seem to be left with is creating a new share on my server called "BONUS FEATURES" I create a folders in that share, one for each of my movies that has special features. I create a new library called "BONUS FEATURES" and point it to that share, and have it treat it as if they were home movies. I get no meta data, but at least in folder view I can now actually view all my bonus features.
I hope that a better way to do this is on the list of things to improve.
I have converted my entire infrastructure now to PLEX, and with this one exception, it works GREAT!!!!

Yes I tried this as well...
The files are all includes under the same movie, but they're not named "Making of" etc....
What to do ?

I've found two good/decent solutions with how Plex currently works.
The simpler option is to get Plex to play the bonus features at the end of your movie. You can do this by naming the main feature as the first part and the bonus features as additional parts. This should allow you to use the skip feature in some of the apps but others will just be blind jumping (or sitting through each piece). This works similarly to the bonus features included on a VHS tape.
MOVIES
\The Avengers (2012)
\The Avengers (2012) - pt1.mkv (Main feature film)
\The Avengers (2012) - pt2.mkv (Bonus content)
\The Avengers (2012) - pt3.mkv (Bonus content)
\The Avengers (2012) - pt4.mkv (Bonus content)
\The Avengers (2012) - pt5.mkv (Bonus content)
OR
The bonus features can be filed in a section separate from the main movie. This is the more feature filled and complicated option.
To make sure they will display correctly, I created a separate section for the bonus features of my movies. The section is a "TV Shows" type section that I named "Movies - Bonus Features". Setting the section as "TV Shows" allows a set of bonus features to be grouped together without making them into a single play entry. I set the agent for that specific section to "Personal Media Scanner" instead of "TheTVDB". This means that it pulls the titles from the individual files.
Each set of bonus features is then divided up into "Show" (e.g. "The Avengers"), then season (I generally start at Season 0). The seasons are divided based on type of bonus content: Season 0 for general behind the scenes, Season 1 for deleted scenes and Season 2 for music videos and so on. Any shorts are filed under their own entry in the main movies section (e.g. "Marvel One-Shot: Item 47") then I edit the tag in Plex's database to sort to sit next to the feature it came with (e.g. "Avengers: Item 47"). The shorts usually are in IMDB but may be under a different year than the feature they came with. (This means Plex can automatically pull a poster and description if you name it right.)
MOVIES (Movies section)
\The Avengers (2012)\The Avengers (2012).mkv
\Item 47 (2012).mkv
MOVIES - BONUS FEATURES (TV Show section, personal media scanner)
\The Avengers
\Season 0
\The Avengers - s00e01 - Gag Reel.mkv
\The Avengers - s00e02 - A Visual Journey.mkv
\Season 1
\The Avengers - s01e01 - Alternate Opening.mkv
\The Avengers - s01e02 - Extended Scene.mkv
\Season 2
\The Avengers - s02e01 - Music Video.mkv
This solution is definitely less than perfect but it lets me browse the bonus features in the Plex interface and it does show the title for the bonus features.

Hello,
I am curious as to what procedure everyone uses to rip the extras and name them. MakeMKV does not name them to anything meaningful, and having to manually figure out which mkv file matches up with the BluRay menus is a hassle.
thx
has anything been updated since this post was made?
six years later, same problem: Been using Plex a long time but I still have not found a good solution how to deal with DVD bonus material.
E.g. The Depeche Mode - Devotional DVD has a ton of music videos, extra interviews on it but when I put that material into the same folder as the main concert video I either have a single entry for all 10 videos and am unable to select any specific video. Also the video Plex picks to play seems to be random. But if I stack the bonus content in a separate bonus content folder, I may miss the fact that bonus content for that concert exists.
How are others dealing with this situation? Wouldn’t it be great if Plex had a way to deal with bonus content and display it as such next to the main video / movie?

For TV libraries this is wholly dependent on the Season 00 as the TVDB lists them. For movie libraries:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220677-local-media-assets-movies/
Check the “Local Trailers and Extras” section.
There has been a way to deal with that for years.
Treat your bonus material as ‘Local Extras’.
This requires you to set the ‘Plex Movie Scanner’ as the scanner for your library. (Just in case that you have created your concert library as type ‘Other Video’).
Official documentation on the feature was already posted in the post above.
Here are some a real-world use cases:
