BRSK internet and plex issues- no remote access .Server unavaiable

Hello

Since switching my internet from SKY to BRSK fiber internet I have had nothing but trouble with my synology NAS and Plex access.

At first it kept saying server and remote access unavailable even when I was within my own home and network.

Have all the latest DSM and plex updates installed.
I was told BRSK use CGNAT so I paid extra for a static IP but this does not seem to have made any difference.

For example my LG tv will now access the server and play media but my laptop which controls file organization etc via the Plex webpage has to go on VPN in order for to see my server.!

I can enable remote access but 2 mins later it defaults back to no remote access.

I have also port forwarded the plex ports on my BRSK router fro remote access but this made no impact what so ever.

I have considered getting my own router installed and binning off the BRSK one?

any advice please would be most appreciated.

The usual major stumbling block when changing ISPs is how the LAN is configured,
– Subnet IP range
– Modem/router gateway IP address
– DNS resolution IP address

The next thing to be done is open the NAT/Gaming port forwarding to the STATIC IP address (static is highly advised for any device which has forwarded ports … such as Plex)

The “2 minutes later” scenario you describe is very indicative of the port not being forwarded.

If you use both your router and the ISP router, you will have double NAT (unless you put their router in ‘Bridge mode’). The whole process gets awkward if not drawn out on paper first ( I find it far easier to write it out, desk check it. then implement it)

hi there

thanks for getting back to me

Was not going to use 2 router for yes that reason - spot on

My set up is BRSK router to a layer 2 gigabyte switch

this goes to NAS , TV etc
i have assigned the NAS, TV my laptop on static IP’s - this made no difference( sorry forgot to put that in OP)

thanks for getting back to me

Try port forwarding on your router. It is necessary to forward port 32400 from the outside to your NAS (to its IP address).

That’s incorrect. You can define pretty much any public port for the port forward. However the forward must point to port 32400 on the machine hosing your PMS (private/internal port)!

Hello
Thanks for the replies
Could you please provide me with some more help .
To.my knowledge i have gone into my routers settings and forwarded that port.
Then on my laptop which controls the plex server and software i have enabled remote access .
This still does not work.
The nas has a ststic IP by entering a manual IP in synology software.
DNS wise and gateway i have not changed any orgional settings.
