Server Version#: 1.30.0.6486
I installed Plex via the Synology NAS’s Package Center. My Plex can access other Plex servers that share with me but others that I’ve invited can’t access my Plex. Under Plex’s “Remote Access” it says “Not available outside your network”. In Plex config, port forwarding of 32400 has been configured. Do I need to configure the Synology NAS in some way as well? My NAS (running Plex) is hardwired to a tp-link gigabit switch which in turn is hardwired to an eero router. The router has UPnP enabled.
if you enabled the “manually Specified port” field in remote access setting then the server will expect that port to already be forwarded in router and it will not ask the router to use UPnP to assign a port.
I unchecked “Manually specify public port”, assigned an IP reservation for the NAS that is hosting Plex, opened port 32400 on the router’s firewall. Now Plex says “Fully accessible outside your network” for about 60 seconds and then switches back to “Not available outside your network”. When I press the Retry button it switches back to “Fully accessible outside your network” briefly. Do you have any idea what might be going on?
it is only saying accessible for a moment because it is just the screen it shows first during a check.
I would configure port forwarding rather than relying on UPnP. ( in which case you want the port specified)
What ISP do you have? some have been known to block Plex
My ISP is Metronet
I downloaded the Plex app on my cell phone and disabled wifi. I can connect to my Plex server but only in “indirect” mode. Do I need a dedicated IP address to allow clients to connect directly to my Plex server?
I don’t know if your ISP is putting you on a CGNAT if that is what you mean. If they are you will need to ask them for a unique external IP
When manually port forwarding you need to make sure it is always forwarded to the correct computer. port forwarding is by local IP which can change so check if your router has something like DHCP IP reservation based on MAC address so DHCP always gives your Syno that same local IP
how to understand this - even i am facing same problem
@rajeshm170 have you port forwarded in router or are you relying on UPnP?
I’ve tried both. Same results either way. I’ve further researched based on the help I’ve received here and wonder if I’m behind a CG-NAT. My router’s WAN IP address is 100.64.x.x so I think so. I’m going to call MetroNet today and speak with them. At this point my understanding is that I need a static IP address in order to allow external connections to my Plex server.
I obtained a static IP address. Connections to my Plex and throughput are fine now.
