Buffer in Plex App but not on built in DLNA player with LG OLED

Server Version#: 1.16.5.1554
Player Version#: appstore: 2.1.3 plex version: 4.3.0 WebOS: 3.8.0

Hi,

I recently got a USB to Ethernet adapter that allows my LG TV to now have a gigabit Ethernet connection and tried to play 4K remuxes through the Plex app, however, I still get buffering in Plex. I also get buffering with X-Play. In Plex, when looking at the bandwidth dashboard, the network never goes above 75Mbps, with X-Play it’s about 60Mbps for the same file.

I then play the same file and scene via the built in DLNA player of the LG TV (OLED55C7P) and the file plays silky smooth. As you can see from the various screen shots below, the DLNA player has no problem going to higher bitrates… I even saw some around 300 but wasn’t fast enough at snipping a screenshot.

Is there a way to get the Plex player on the LG app to use the DLNA player, or at least have the option… or maybe just to figure out why I have some sort of limit on bandwidth.

Also, as an FYI, when I use my Shield on my other TV with the same Plex server, everything plays smoothly there too.

Thanks in advance for any help.

As an update, I turned off secure connection and I now have a bit better performance, but it now skips on the demanding scene rather than buffer… still doesn’t play smoothly like DLNA, but better.

I don’t know how to whitelist my local network, as I want to ensure encryption is required for everything outside my local network, but it seems like this has helped.

There are some 4K files with HD-MA audio that Plex has issues, then there are subs another mind field. There is an experimental / Beta Server available that is targeted at resolving some of these issues.
