Server Version#: 1.15.3.876
Player Version#: LG TV App 2.1.0 - 07/09/2016
I was wondering if someone had/has a similar problem with LG TVs
I have a LG 50" LA6608 from 2013 and the Plex app (2.1.0 - 07/09/2016) is not useable at all
It is buffering all the time (I only have 1080p movies on that server, no 4K stuff) and the speed to my Plex server is slow af (it barely goes above 9 Mbit/s, as seen from Plex dashboard)
Here is a screenshot from the dashboard, very weird behaviour https://i.imgur.com/Dnnmt61.png
the file is a 13.5 Mbit/s 1080p Movie but with that speed, playback is impossible
I’ve a Chromecast on that TV (50-60 Mbit/s off of that Plex Server) but it would be nice to use the native Plex app
The TV (100Mbit/s) is connected to the same router as the Plex Server(1Gbit/s)
I’ve tried alot of different routers I have and it’s the same on all and also on WIFI
anyone got an idea what I could try, except ditching the App?
EDIT: it works if I set it to 1080p 10Mbit/s
interesting that the bandwith is now between 2 and 10 Mbit/s https://i.imgur.com/eo07fWJ.png
I’ve also tried DLNA and it streams with 15+ Mbit/s
so it has to be the Plex app…
EDIT2: turns out it’s the secure connection
with set to unsecure only, the bandwith is now where it should be https://i.imgur.com/kE8sxU7.png
but the movies are unwatchable now, due to constant stuttering (video, audio is fine)
everything set to original
With the older LG app V1 you should set it to “Original” for local not 10M/bit/s
Check in authorised devices on PMS and see which LG app version your using.
Don’t worry about what you see on TV, that the original loader pak. It updates on start up.
What I would try is the following exactly.
Uninstall the app and remove any unnecessary other apps
Turn off at wall for a couple Minutes
Remove the device from PMS as mentioned above - LG TV app. Restart PMS.
Start TV and install app again, sign in.
Hopefully that resets everything, if you are having trouble installing change the TV DNS setting in network settings to a Public DNS like Google 8.8.8.8
actually I’ve just installed the app on the TV a few hours ago, I always used the chomecast, I just wanted to try the native app
I already tried to set the IP to manual but it didn’t work
but what difference should it make if i change the dns server?
I’m playing on the same internal network as my Plex server…
and my current dns is 1.1.1.1 btw
If I remove the client from my PMS should the app version show 3.13.26?
remember I am on 1.15.2.793 server side
V1 app did go up 3.13.26 for some LG TV’s I have just noticed yours is a 2013 set so maybe 3.13.13 is correct.
Public DNS can assist in PLEX authorisations and connecting to LG store, as ISP DNS are often an issue.
As for V1 app I had it on my old 2014 LG smart TV, it was ok but a bit slow. Now I’ve got a brand new LG OLED65B8 at a bargain $3000 AUD with V2 app and it’s awesome. If your not going to update TV I would look at a Roku4 with the new UNO Plex app it looks fantastic. Check it out in forums. The new UI of the app will be coming to all Clients but I would say the older TV clients due to processor restraints will miss out.
