Buffering icon does not go away after stalling and switching playback quality

Frequently, while streaming from my local Plex server and using original quality, playback stops indefinitely with the buffering icon. While that issue is annoying and likely something I will provide a bug report for in the future, as I do not believe it to be a hardware issue on either end, I am now reporting a simpler, related issue. When I fix the playback after it stalls, by switching to something other than original quality, the buffering icon does not go away but playback does resume. This leaves me no choice but to either keep the buffering icon there or to fully reload the movie and immediately switch quality to get it to go away and not come back for the remainder of playback.
