Buffering on LAN

I’m having an issue where videos that are have a ~5Mbps bitrate or higher will buffer(device dependent) frequently on LAN and WAN. On the LAN I buffer everytime I play an MKV that has a bitrate of 5.6Mbps within the first 10 seconds.Younger s01e01.txt (3.3 KB)

The video is h264 and aac audio. When I have Plex Server open it shows as direct play on the Chromecast. I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what is causing the problem. I have had other users of my system report the same type of problem on other videos but only when the bitrate is higher than the 5Mbps.

I can cap the same file at 4Mbps and force a transcode and it will play without an issue. I also tried Optimizing to the same “Original Quality” and suffered from the same buffering. On the same LAN I can play the video on my Galaxy S9 without buffering.

Any help would be great. I can provide whatever details or logs that will help.

Thank you!

curious to see what errors your log shows, can you upload that? i created a post myself on buffering which ive been seeing lately.

I’ve determined that my problem was related the MDE with the older devices I have been using. Chromecast Gen 1 and PS4 have a combination of being both slow, not support 5 GHz wireless and have limited direct play/stream options.

I have since been playing the same media both remotely and locally using Chromecast Gen 3 and a new FireStick.

I plan to buy the new “Chromecast with Google Tv” that is being rumored to launch at the end of the month
