Hi to all, please help me. i watch movies via plex on samsung tv qe55q80t. It is connected to a home network via wi-fi 5GHz, movies are on a laptop Asus k42Jr (core i5 430, 6Gb RAM), which is connected to a router via a LAN cable to a gigabit channel.
I watch movies in 4k 60-70Gb. When I start a movie without subtitles, everything goes perfectly and does not slow down. But as soon as I turn on forced subtitles at least at the beginning of the film, at least during the viewing process. Buffering and braking begins immediately.
As I understand it, when subtitles are turned on, plex starts to process transcoding. How can this be fixed? There are films with scenes where the actors speak different languages, and they definitely need forced subtitles. Help me please.
If you are using text based subtitles (SRT, ASS, etc) then check the subtitles configuration of your client, make sure it is as “ONLY IMAGES” and not as “AUTOMATIC”. This is actually very user unfriendly because logic will tell you that Automatic sounds better. If your subtitles are image based (VOB, PGS, etc) and your client does not support them then transcoding is needed.
I turned on “only graphic subtitles” on the TV did not help, buffering is still going on. I use subtitles not as a separate file, but those in the movie file itself.
The option is called "“Only Image Formats” under subtitles / burn subtitles. You changed that one?
Yes
I understood what the problem is. I downloaded films on hhd, which is now in the laptop instead of dvd-rom. And I put an SSD instead of a hard drive and a system on ssd. I noticed for a long time that the hard drive in place of the dvd does not work so fast. Now copied the 75Gb movie to ssd and turned on subtitles. Everything shows fine and does not slow down anything)))
