Is the video transcoding when you enable subtitles?
You can monitor playback via Plex Dashboard → Now Playing to see if the video or audio is transcoding.
When enabling SRT subtitles, make sure the audio is not transcoding. This means avoiding TrueHD audio and possibly dts audio formats (LG recently dropped support for dts audio).
With the Plex webOS app:
Enabling PGS or VOBSUB subtitles results in a video transcode & subtitle burning.
If the audio is transcoding, enabling any subtitle format results in a video transcode and subtitle burning.
If the audio is direct playing, text subtitles (SRT & VTT) direct play.
With SSA/ASS subtitles:
If Burn Subtitles = Automatic, enabling SSA/ASS subtitles results in a video transcode and subtitle burning.
If Burn Subtitles = Image Formats Only, SSA/ASS subtitles direct play, but formatting information is lost (color, position, etc).
Thank you for the quick reply, I have this NAS for a year now and never encountered this issue before until the last few months, so this is not a CPU limitation or anything like that.
The subtitle can be either SRT file, embedded subtitle and PGS none of them works, and it did before!
I have uploaded a screenshot of the dashboard while a movie is playing with subtitles on.
As you can see the video is black screening and cannot be played at all and the resources are fine.
