Selecting subtitles (online or local) causes an infinite buffering

Hi!
1-2 months ago there was an update that ruined my whole Plex experience - I cannot watch local avi movies with subtitles anymore :frowning: I tried local srt files and online ones, but both cause an infinite buffering of all movies. When I select “no subtitle” then the movies launch straight away. The strange thing is that the subtitles work when I watch them on Plex on my laptop (web browser), however when streaming to my TV they doent.

What should I do? I checked all settings, but found nothing :frowning:

Running it on:

  • BRAVIA 4K GB ATV3, 9.0.6.31998, Plex for Android (TV)
  • Asus with AMD Ryzen 7 4800H 2.90 GHz with 16GB RAM, 1.26.0.5715 Plex Media Server

Umm, well I can bet that any subs on a web browser will cause a transcode, where your server will burn in the subs to the video and send you that new video link. Android players have more support for subs, so it must be trying to take in subs and add it to the file, which… darned if I can tell why it doesn’t work.

Try to force a transcode for the AVI+subs on your TV, to see if that helps. You can force a transcode by choosing an alternate quality (higher or lower), rather than “Original quality”
