[BUG] 4K + headphones not working

Server: Windows media server latest version
Client: Google Home Plex app

When I connect my headphones the 4k video does not start, stucked on loading.
I also enabled the transcoding but that didn’t work.
I’m having this issue only with 4K + headphones.
Not having any issue with 4K + default tv audio
Not having any issue with 1080p + headphones/default tv audio

So right now I’m watching in 1080p but it’s really annoying because every time an episode finish and I start the next one, it tries to start the 4k resolution, which does not work.

Can you guys extend this feature to Tv shows as well?
So at least I can watch the 1080p version without the need to exit and start by “Play version…” each time. (This is, ofc, at least until you guys solve this 4k bug)

TV shows already have it. but you can only split entire shows that are in their own folders, not individual episodes. An individual show cannot list with thumbs two of the same episode separately.

Do you mean you are using the 4k Chromecast with Google TV (which is our Android TV app)?

Yep, that one. Sorry, not very good about naming

About the feature split apart, thanks I didn’t notice before because I looked from the options “externally” while it’s only available when you open the tv show.
Though I just tried to use it, and it didn’t split the tv show. Of course I have the 2 resolutions in 2 different folders. Any suggestions?

So you have it just like this below as two separate shows? not one show folder with subfolder for 4k and 1080?

/TVShows
 ____/Band of Brothers (2001)
 ____/Battlestar Galactica (2003) [4k]
 ____/Battlestar Galactica (2003) [1080p]
 ____/Boardwalk Empire (2010)

Some folks just make a 4k library and a regular library for everything else. so they have a /TVShows 4K and /TVShows

I have it like this:

So I guess this kind of structure is a problem?
I auto-rename contents in my library so I can’t keep the same content in the same folder or it would conflict (unless of course I would add the resolution beside, but I should change auto-renaming settings for it).

for the headphones issue. are they connected to the TV bluetooth or the bluetooth on the Google TV?

Connected to the 4k Chromecast (Google TV) via bluetooth.

Before I used to connect them to the TV, and maybe they were working (I decided to connect them to the chromecast because they go auto, while on the tv I must connect manual :S ). Gonna try to switch back to the TV and let you know.

also meant to ask do both the 4k and 1080 files have the same type of audio?

Yes, exactly the same: EAC3 codec, 6 ch

Ok I can confirm you that connecting headphones to the TV is playing the 4K correctly.
So the issue only arise when connecting headphones to Google TV with 4K video.

Thanks, will stick with TV bluetooth for now eheh

yeah that does seem to be the issue here. I’m going to have to ask about what should happen there. I have a feeling a bug though else why have the split apart option there if it cannot be done. Thanks for reporting.

Sorry one last question about bluetooth issue. Does the content being played have subtitles enabled?

Yes (SRT format), they are always enabled but I don’t think they are the issue in this case.

One “trick” I’ve found (which maybe can also help to solve the bug) is to start the 4k video with no headphones connected and only connect the headphone while it is playing. This way seems that it’s working. So there must be an issue with headphones (bluetooth) only when the video is started.
