I’m at my wit’s end trying to figure this out. Some files that used to work fine, now refuse to play on Google TV. They work fine on Roku and other platforms. And I can use the Chromecast function to cast those files to the Google TV with no problem. So I know my server can handle it. But trying to play them on the Plex app itself causes a black screen with endlessly spinning load circle.
The files I have the most consistent trouble with are 4k (uncompressed blu-ray rips) with 7.1 TrueHD audio. I realize the Google TV can’t handle TrueHD but it’s not even trying to transcode it. Weirdly, I can play 4K files that have other audio codecs, and I can play 1080p files with 7.1 TrueHD, but not files that have both.
I’ve tried messing with every setting in Plex and the Google TV. I’m on the latest beta version of the app. Would love any help at all with this. Thank you!
I’m having the exact same problem, but with regular non-4k videos. Basic H264 videos randomly have this issue. Can watch from Android app or cast to GoogleTV no issues, just can’t watch it directly from the Plex app.
I just found another thread that explained this issue. Looks like it happens when there are multiple files for one movie or episode and the audio needs to be transcoded.
Once I deleted the 2nd version of an episode having this issue, it was able to play without any issues.
@Caerious & @hexfield the easier temporary solution is to just manually select Play Version for now whenever there are two versions if the Audio needs to be transcoded.
Plex is aware of this issue and I’d have to imagine will have it fixed soon.
I think there are a number of people who intentionally keep two versions of most things so they can have a native-HDR and native-SDR version of a film.
