BUG! Amazon echo silent when streaming audio

We’re all still waiting for a response and answer. I’m not sure why we’re not getting helped at all, but I wish we’d get SOME answer even if it’s not a desirable answer…

Wanted to enjoy my Plex library on stereo echo devices and echo sub for Thanksgiving. That sure would give me something to be thankful for. But, alas… as before… no joy.
Still not working. Alexa says “Playing Library Radio.” Stream never starts or shows up on PLEX dashboard as now playing on the two Gen 2 Echo devices running stereo with Echo Sub. Plays fine and shows up as now playing on one Gen 2 Echo Dot (both .mp3’s and flac files play fine). Wish someone would look into this SOMEDAY SOON.

Heard back that Plex has no control over the Echo devices. I know that. The problem is with the Plex skill from Amazon. The two, Plex and Amazon need to work together to come up with a fix. Just like they came up with the skill in the first place. It works on one Echo dot, but not at all on 2 running as a stereo pair w/an Echo sub. Latest is it worked on the one Echo dot, and the stereo pair Alexa said, “Uh oh, something went wrong. I’ll report it…” So I was hopeful they were doing something about the problem. I reactivated the Alexa Plex skill in the Alexa app, and the “Uh oh” to the stereo pair stopped. But only just went back to not working. Recognized the computer, the song, everything. Actually played on the one echo dot. On the pair? Still nothing.

Sheesh! Clueless!

I guess there’s no money to be made from people playing their pre owned or own music. Just as there no profit in paying artists.

I’ll figure out a DNLA client, though alexa skills won’t work well. There are a couple of DNLA skills in the amazon market, but need something installed at server end due to those technical limitations

Folks with the “alexa heard me but doesn’t actually play any audio” issue, try reporting this failure to Amazon using the Alexa app and providing feedback like @sjsoukup recommends here: Alexa skill: connects but doesn't play music - #50 by sjsoukup

Perhaps that’ll get the Amazon folks looking at it and maybe we’ll get this fixed finally!

It appears to be Amazon’s fix; not only Plex, but WJST Jet Set Radio and Kansas Public Radio (KPR) skills are working again and were not before.

The Amazon Tap still doesn’t play with any of those skills.

Can confirm my gen 1 echo is now streaming, and appears to be full flac quality, not mangled mp3.

Doesn’t really matter who’s fix, it’s an integration. I’m very unimpressed that neither plex or akexa teams could be arsed to communicate with any of us.

Confirmed fixed for my gen 1 echo as well. Agree with @steve_fullmeasure_co_uk that more communication on the issue/fix from Plex/Amazon would have been desirable!

I have been posting regularly for a long time about two 2nd generation echos running as a stereo pair with an accompanying echo sub abruptly stopping working, never to return. I finally gave up when no fix ever came after months and months. On Black Friday Amazon had the Gen 4 (sphere-shaped) Echo speakers come down to $59 from $99. They are still priced that way and here were are at almost Christmas. Then I even found other deals like a 30% off credit card offer from Discover on a new Echo, a trade-in deal where you send in an old Echo dot and get $5 bucks, but that entitles you to get 25% off on a new Echo. Anyway, putting all these together I was looking at somewhere around 60% off, so I crossed my fingers, and -yep- I have my PLEX library back. I relegated the Gen 2’s to a second stereo pair. So everything like Spotify, etc., will stream on 4 speakers but at least Plex will now stream again on 2 plus the sub. The sound is much improved I have to say, crisper thanks to two tweeters, and more bass thanks to the sub inside the echos firing upward in a completely new design. I got the white ones that match my HP all-in-one white computer. So, better price and better sound are great benefits - though working AT ALL with Plex was reason enough to upgrade. Very happy now until they break something again. I hate to say I half expect it. Seems like it was planned obsolescence to just stop working and have no fix forthcoming, or even an explanation to offer. If you have Gen 1’s or 2’s and Plex in stereo stopped working, upgrade to the 4’s while Amazon has this deal going and you’ll be good to go again (FINALLY)! - and with better quality sound in the bargain. Hoping to stop posting about this for the rest of my LIFE lol… The frustration is over. Wish Plex would play through the 4 speakers like everything else does, but hey 2 is better than I’ve had in a long, long time.
