Hello everyone,

I hope you guys can help me out.

I am using the latest Android version of Plex, version 9.21.1.1169 and am encountering the following issue, which was not present in older versions of the app. I have this problem on the following mobile devices:

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+

All three run on Android 13 with the latest updates.

I currently have Plex Media Server version 4.100.1:

file: PlexMediaServer-1.32.0.6973-a787c5a8e-x86_64_DSM7.spk

updated on my Synology NAS DS920+ with DSM 7.1.1-42962.

I noticed that any newer subfolders (of a main shared folder) of a photo folder cannot be opened. Some others in the same place can already be opened.

When I set it to ā€œPhotoā€ during playback, I see a thumbnail of one of the photos it contains. When I press it, it lights up briefly, but doesn’t open. If I press a little longer (ā€˜long press’) I can select ā€˜play’ at the bottom of the screen and then the photos will appear. This is completely inexplicable.

I also installed Plex on a Google Chromecast with TV and there this problem doesn’t play at all. Likewise on Tizen (Samsung) and on iPhone and iPad. The problem appears to be limited to Android only! So, a problem with missing rights assignment cannot be the question here.

I activated my version of Plex Media Server so I can still stream movies longer than 1 minute.

I have added another screenshot of a problem folder in the album view. Looks weird.

Does anyone recognize that? It seems to me that there is no rights issue, otherwise this would not play on the Google Chromecast with TV and others either.

Thank you very much.

Logs are attached after going through the reported issue.

Thanks

I have the same issue on all of my Android devices with video folders which are on a second level. The folders are shown in the same way and can not be opened, and the files can only be played all & as a playlist. This is useless.
For now I have uninstalled the Plex app and will look for an alternative.

I have the exact same issue with some of my mixed libraries. It was working a few weeks back, but has been broken since. This only occurs on my android device. I don’t have an iOS device to test this, but the web variants and the desktop app variant is working fine. Hopefully this can be fixed ASAP, because this is really annoying as I can’t access entire photo albums.

I have a similar issue on both my android phones for the last week or so. I cant open any folders deeper then tree layers. it just sits there not responding.

Both are android 11. Current version is 9.21.2.1271 but it was also happening on the previous version.

Today I installed an update (9.21.3,1621) but the problem is still unsolved…

I just installed Plex player version 9.14.0.37871 and this version works flawlessly!!! So, one of the following updates has introduced this bug!!

Any thoughts on this @ChuckPa?

Thanks.

There is nothing much going on since v9.23.x release still shows the same problem :pensive:.

I’ll stick to the January 2023 version which works fine…

Pretty disgraceful this still isn’t fixed yet. Seems like they have abandoned Android device users. I’m looking to start migrating over to Jellyfin or other alternatives at this point since it seems they can’t, or don’t care about fixing this issue.

If they did indeed decide to abandon Android users, they would be disadvantaging themselves a lot because the share of Android is one of the largest that generates revenue for Plex right now!

For a long time I feel like I’m wasting my time reporting an important issue that seems to be ignored by Plex, only I get visits from several people who are experiencing the same issue.

Way to go Plex!!
