Unable to open sub folders on Plex on Samsung S8

I am having an issue on my Samsung s8 with Plex. I have my music set up with a few layers of sub folders. Top layer is Albums / Mixes / Playlists if I then click on one of those to enter into the next layer of sub folders all works fine e.g if I click into albums it shows the folders properly 60s/70/80s etc (image supplied) but if I then click into one of those folders e.g 60s the next layer doesn’t display the folders properly and I can’t then enter into the next layer of folders beyond that. I have supplied an image to show what the 3rd layer of sub folders looks like). If I click and hold down on one of the third layer of folder it offers the option of ‘Play / Shuffle / Add to Queue / Add to playlist’ but I cannot enter the sub folders within that folder or see the tracks if the next layer is the actual album. This was not an issue before the update on the 24th April. Any ideas on how to resolve this please?

Hello,

I face exactly the same problem on some more recent photo folders. I just posted this topic. Am curious for an answer.

As an addendum to my original message I am using a Synology DS220+ nas to store the music, running the latest versions of plex on both the nas and my phone. I pay for the Plex Pass. All is working fine on my other devices, desktop PC, Ipad, macbook pro and my wifes iphone. It’s only on Android on the Samsung S8 that this problem is showing up. Sadly though that’s where I mostly access my music from so it’s a bit of an issue. And It does indeed look like the exactly the same issue that Michel2432 who has replied on this thread is facing…

Hi Michel2432, yes it does indeed look like we are in the same boat. Hopefully they will patch the issue soon. best, John

Any idea who the moderator is or are?

As far as I’m concerned this is a bug! Hopefully this will be addressed in an update in the Google Play store.

Hello,

I came across this:

Afraid not, hopefully the ‘Plex employee’ who has answered the other post you shared has reported this as it’s a right pain and agreed a clear bug and hopefully we be addressed in an update soon. Thanks Michel2432

I’m dealing with the same issue for my video files folder using the Plex app for Kindle. It seemed to have changed with the recent update. You can view contents of the initial folder but any sub folders are treated like a media file on their own and it asks you to play the entire folder (or create a playlist from it).

Having the exact same issue as of last night, and it is only on Android devices. I have tested on 3 different phones (including one that was a fresh install on a new device) as well as tablets with the same bug, however works fine on Roku, PS5, Desktop, iPhone. Hoping for a fix soon

Posted about this issue in a similar thread, but would also like to say I have this issue as well, and hopefully the devs are looking into this.

Would be good if a Plex employee could let us know if this has indeed been picked up by the devs and when a fix will be put in place as its seriously affecting my enjoyment of plex as I’m sure it is for the many other Android users. Surely it can’t be too hard to put a patch in place for this bug since it was previously working with no issues?

For anyone else having this issue I found a post on another chat about the same issue which has the links to the APK’s to download the last version of Plex that did not have this bug. I have downloaded and all is working fine again. You need to remove Plex from your device and then download the Apk via the link below on the post by Rokixslugg and install manually which is very easy. Also make sure that you have disabled auto update in the play store or wherever you download your apps from so it doesn’t just get written over again.

Hi,

Today I installed an update (9.21.3,1621) but the problem is still unsolved…

I’m not entirely sure if it is indeed a bug.

Such delay to fix it (at least two new versions and more than two weeks since the bug show up) strongly suggest me it was intentional.

Maybe to force us to use the new plexamp.

I’m not entirely sure if it is indeed a bug.

You’re kidding right?
Why would access to photo folders in a properly set up shared folder be intentionally be denied??  And why not on e.g. IOS devices or on other platforms?

I just installed version 9.14.0.37871 and this version works flawlessly!!! So, one of the following updates has introduced this bug!!

That is the version I am using as well, however, I find that it lasts about a day and the issue reappears prompting an uninstall and reinstall… What a pain…

Thanks! The latest 9.25 update fixed the problem!
