[Bug] Cannot upload background artwork for episodes

Server Version#: Plex Media Server version 1.21.4.4054
Player Version#: Plex Web version 4.52.1

It is not possible to upload background images for episodes. Note this is not the same as the episode thumbnail image (poster).

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Click the pencil icon to edit the metadata for any episode.
  2. Go to the “Background” tab (not the “Poster” tab). [Screenshot]
  3. Upload an image by browsing, drag-and-drop, or url.
  4. The message “this artwork was uploaded successfully” is displayed but the artwork does not show up. [Screenshot]

Bump.

Bump.

Thanks. I can repro - although I think the background option being there for episodes is probably a bug. We don’t appear to actually use it anywhere (I think clients look for the show art work only).

Is there a specific reason you want to do this?

It’s not that I want this option, but rather it’s just something that I noticed is in the UI but doesn’t work. Personally I would be fine either way if it works or is removed.

It’s failing our automated tests.

I noticed this myself today. I recently realised that it’s possible to have season level backgrounds. For shows like American Horror Story this is very handy.

However, the background only stays when on the season level view, if you go into an episode within a season it then defaults back to the show level background and not the season one. Have tested on Web, Android TV and Roku clients.

I noticed that uploading a banner for a tv show also exhibits the same behaviour with the new a Plex TV Series agent.

We don’t support banners anymore. This is just waiting on a fix in the Web Client to remove the option.
