[BUG] Chromecast TV app streaming error - can't play files

Server Version#: 1.43.0.10162
Player Version#: 10.30.6.4151

Hello everyone,

For the past couple of days, I have been having an issue making it impossible to stream some files on my Chromecast with Google TV 4K. I have attached the logs. Based on my analysis with ChatGPT, the player requests transcoding of the audio but the server doesn’t?

This issue is completely new, these exact files were playing perfectly fine (direct playing I believe?) just a few days ago. I have no issue playing them on the web version, my phone or my PS4. I updated my server (running in docker / Ubuntu server 24.04 LTS VM / Proxmox 9) but this didn’t fix anything.

For info, hardware transcoding (and GPU passthrough) are confirmed working on my Plex server.

Do you have any idea about what is happening and how it can be solved?

Thank you!

I’ve been seeing a similar issue, I cant use the mobile app to chromecast a film (and this only seems to affect films), but I can use the plex webapp to cast to the same device!

I have had some success with Server Version 1.43.0.10231 from the beta release. Most content plays that didn’t on the public release. I only have one video which doesn’t play that used to previously when chromecasting.

As a workaround, if you open plex in the chrome browser on your phone, you can force encoding of the media, which is not present in the new app since April.

Same here - My plex setup has been working fine for years, but now i can’t stream any of my content on the chromecast with google tv.
My android phone, websites, and LG tv app works fine with plex.
On the chromecast app it just spins when i play - the “nerd details” doesn’t show anything of interest. Also, casting to the chromecast also doesn’t work - so both the dedicated app and casting is broken. Other apps and casting work fine.

All AI options failed at solving it;

  • Changing settings in the chromecast app (but why would it when casting is also broken)
  • Deleting the codecs files
  • forcing transcoding

This is super annoying!
