[BUG] Embedded Track Name Not Rendering Correctly

Edit: Skip to my reply below this post for details on the bug. I think this initial post is now largely irrelevant

Hello

I’m at a loss. I’m hoping someone can provide some assistance.

I have a number of tracks which are similarly named. They were all ripped together, and all of the ID3 tag data was set in the ripper. Two of the tracks are not coming through correctly.

I expect the two incorrectly named files to display as:

8 Études-tableaux, Op.33: No.8 in c-sharp
9 Études-tableaux, Op.39: No.1 in c

but they display as

Études-tableaux, Op.33: No.8 in c-sharp
Études-tableaux, Op.39: No.1 in c

which is not consistent with the other tracks.

I have the following four files:

In Plex they are rendering as:

The ID3 tag data for each of the files are as follows:

The title of “8 Études-tableaux, Op.33: No.8 in c-sharp” is clearly set correctly in this screen grab

The title of “9 Études-tableaux, Op.39: No.1 in c” is clearly set correctly in this screen grab.

None of the titles for these tracks are being overwritten in Plex. Here’s the edit dialog for two of the files (one working, one broken):

I do not know why this is displaying as “Études-tableaux, Op.33: No.8 in c-sharp” as opposed to "8 Études-tableaux, Op.33: No.8 in c-sharp"

These tracks are in a basic music library (as opposed to a premium Plex music library.) “Use embedded tags” is selected for this library. “Personal Media Artists” is being used as the agent (as opposed to Last.fm). I have never encountered this issue before. I know I can overwrite the titles with the correct text, but I’d really like to know the root cause of this.

I have tried various things, such as removing the files from my NAS, re-scanning the library so that they are removed, followed by cleaning bundles, optimizing the DB, and emptying the trash. Re-adding the tracks and re-scanning the library causes them to render in the same broken way. Refreshing metadata on the album view does nothing to fix the issue.

I’m all out of ideas. I can see no inconsistencies between the tracks that are rendering correctly and the tracks that are not. If anyone has any thoughts, I’d love to hear them.

Thanks

Actually, after posting this I saw that the two problematic tracks happened to start with the same number as their track number. Track 8 is titled “8 Études-tableaux, Op.33: No.8 in c-sharp” and track 9 is titled “9 Études-tableaux, Op.39: No.1 in c”

Out of curiosity, I renamed the ID3 title for track 4 from “8 Études-tableaux, Op.33: No.4 in d” to “4 Études-tableaux, Op.33: No.4 in d”, re-uploaded to my NAS, and now track 4 renders incorrectly:

This seems to be a bug. I’m running Plex version Version 3.11.0 in Chrome Version 60.0.3112.78 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Could a Plex employee acknowledge receipt/confirmation of this bug (if they’ve already read this post or when they read this post.) Thanks.

Also, it’d be great if Plex (the company) had a public-facing bug tracker. There’s an additional Plex bug that affects me. It’d be great if there was some ticket out there I could follow and be notified of any updates on the issue.

When messing with embedded meta data of tracks that are already added into a Plex library, you want to perform the Plex Dance after making changes.
(with music, you can omit step 4 of the dance)

This problem appeared when adding MP3s for the very first time. I can reproduce it by adding a new MP3 and making the title of it start with the number 1. An MP3 with an embedded track title of “1 Foobar” and a track number of 1 will appear as “Foobar” in Plex.

double post. deleted.

Which type of music library? last.fm or ‘premium’?

Where is ‘Local Media Assets’ located under
Settings - Server - Agents - Albums - last.fm/Premium,
at the top or at the bottom?
And is it ‘checked’ at all?

Is the checkbox ‘use embedded metadata’ in the properties of the music library (‘Advanced’ tab) ‘checked’?

It’s a basic music library (i.e. not premium)
It’s using the “Personal Media Artists” agent (not last.fm)
“Use embedded data” is checked.

Under Artists > “Personal Media Artists” the following agents appear in the following order, both of which are checked:

Local Media Assets (Artists)
Personal Media Artists

All other metadata for all other tracks in this library is coming through correctly.

I guess you have found a genuine bug.
I will file a bug report.

Do you have several Plex servers on different platforms? If so, does this issue appear on both?

I can confirm it also happens on my Plex server running on the Mac. Here’s the details of both instances where I see the problem.

Server #1
QNAP TS-251+ Firmware version 4.3.3.0262 Build 20170727
Plex Version 1.8.0.4109

Server #2
MacOS 10.12.6
Plex Version 1.7.5.4035

In both cases I’m viewing the issue using Chrome version 60.0.3112.90 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks

Thanks, this should be enough.
I’ve filed the bug report.

Excellent. Thank you!
