This does not happen on the web player or the Mac desktop app - only on my Apple TV.
It happens with one single episode (season 2 episode 5) of one single show (Battlestar Galactica) (as far as I can tell anyway).
So, when this episode is unplayed, it is marked Episode 5. But, if I mark it as Played, the overlay on the thumbnail changes to E8 and there is no green checkmark next to it to indicate played, though it shows as played above the episode synopsis. The play state of the actual episode 8 doesn’t seem to carry over.

This persists across reboots of the Apple TV device. The episode itself plays just fine, as far as I can tell it’s just a weird display bug. It isn’t causing any problems besides just looking bad, but I thought I would make a post about it anyway.
