Both on.

Linux/docker-compose

There’s no issue. We don’t use the Tizen profile

So why are we getting errors then?

Server looks up a profile based on device, hence the error. We don’t use that profile because we create them within the app itself and use the Generic profile on the server (which is an empty profile)

Thanks for that insight @sLumpy !

I stumbled upon this as I was trying to debug an issue where my Tizen errored out when playing media whose audio codec is dca. Thus unable to play the media.

I think that’s because Samsung Tizen TVs somehow doesn’t support DCA / DTS passthrough?

Either ways, I then thought Plex should at least transcode it, then play it. But the logs suggest that PMS uses the Generic profile, which you’ve confirmed here. So that explains why it quits transcoding as well.

Question is: what options do I have now?

  1. When you say that you “create them within the app itself” does that mean it should have been taken care of by the Tizen Plex client?
  2. If I try to create a custom Profile (which I still dont know how to make PMS identify my profile/device btw), would this break anything with the setup you mentioned?

If I remember correctly, Samsung stopped supporting DCA/DTS on their TVs a bout a year or 2 ago.

No that doesn’t explain it. The app itself will tell PMS what it should or should not transcode. Not seeing the profile won’t affect this.

In the app, there is an option to send logging info to your server. Please enable this, play the file in question, then grab the logs from your server and post it here.

I do have a DTS-supported Samsung soundbar connected to the TV though. Do you happen to know if that’d make a difference in the audioDecision for this setup?

I’ve just resolved it by upgrading PMS from 1.24.0.4930 to 1.24.4.5081. Those same media files are able to play now, it succcessfully transcoded DCA => AAC, 1536 => 774.

Not sure why that resolved it, but good that it works now. Apologies - I should probably have updated the server as the first debugging step…

If your TV doesn’t support it, then it won’t output DTS to the soundbar.

Hmm, I don’t know either.

i have the same problem as described above. here are some logs collected from device and server:

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-11-21_15-18-36.zip (1.5 MB)

also there is video file’s metada which is crashin while playing:
Dune.2021.2160p.HMAX.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.Atmos.DoVi.by.DVT.mp4.txt (26.5 KB)

Enviroment info:
Windows 10, PMS version 1.24.5.5173
TV client version (8 series device) 5.27.3
Tizen plex app version 5.10.5
TV Model Samsung UE65AU8000UXRU (8 series)
TV OS version 1805.4

I also am having this stupid problem… and i have an LG oled… its not a tv problem, i have played similar files with no problem, yet no matter what version of Eternals I am trying to play… it will not play, always with the transcoder failed, that makes no sense, fix this. and stop letting it happen to devices please.

The initial report is not a bug. That error just means Plex isn’t using a certain device profile. Profiles are not used for most Plex clients anymore so that error should not stop anything.

That’s a totally different issue. Please start a new thread. Also include the log from the Plex client you are playing back on.

Also a different issue from the OP. Please start a new thread with appropriate logs.
