[Bug] Inconsistent poster art for "Other Videos" between clients

Server: 1.22.3.4392
webclient: 4.54.5
iOS client: 7.16
Roku client: 6.7.24.7009

Different clients show the Library View for “Other Videos” type libraries inconsistently. All client teams need to pick a single standard, of whether to display the poster art in a tall portrait manner, or in a wide landscape manner.

Of the clients I have access to, the Library View is as follows:
webclient: tall portrait
iOS: tall portrait
Roku: wide landscape

For those of us with multiple clients, if we design our poster art in one aspect ratio, then it looks wrong on the other clients. Specifically, if we design tall poster art, then it displays incorrectly on the Roku. If we design wide poster art, then it displays incorrectly on the webclient and iOS.

Of these, the most important client for the developers to get correct is the webclient, as that is the interface we use to create, manage, and organize our libraries. If the very tool we are to use to manage our libraries is giving us an incorrect view of our libraries, then heaven help us!

If the developers could please chime in, and tell us what the standard is for “Other Videos” poster art in Library View, that would help determine which clients are displaying this incorrectly. Are the webclient and iOS displaying this correctly, in which case the Roku client is incorrect; or is the Roku displaying this correctly, in which case the webclient and iOS are incorrect?

I have brought up this bug on the Roku side of the forum, but it has never been properly addressed:

Situation still unresolved.

Current versions:
Server: 1.23.1.4602
Plexweb: 4.54.5
iOS client: 7.18
Roku client: 6.7.24.7009

Current versions:
Server: 1.23.2.4656
Plexweb: 4.57.4
iOS client: 7.19
Roku Client: 6.7.28.7055

Situation has slightly changed, though clients are still inconsistent.

Now Plexweb and Roku show wide/landscape poster art.
iOS still shows tall/portrait poster art.

Still no word from developers.

Why the hell is the web client in landscape mode now? It’s terrible! Now I can create a new poster for several thousand music videos.
Just because 2 users wanted landscape mode as standard?
And when I have collections, the detail view (in webclient) still shows the portrait format !! That’s crazy.
And also all my other clienst (ios, Samsung app) still shows the portrait format!
To the developers: Please give us the portrait mode back for the web client !!
If I see it correctly, it was only the roku client in the landscape. All other clients in portrait. Isn’t it a lot easier to just change the roku than everyone else?

Your comment to the other thread is exactly why:

And also all my other clienst (ios, Samsung app) still shows the portrait format!

The problem is that the thumbnail experience is not consistent across clients. Yes, the web client and an iOS app have different screens they cater to but the inconsistency means no matter which way you set your thumbnails they will be wrong somewhere.

As I use Other Videos, and I think for music videos too, landscape thumbnails are better suited. I want my thumbnail to match the ratio for the content in the library. But that’s my use/opinion. Being able to set your own preference would be a great feature.

Yes, this will be the best feature!

For the moment i have in webclient/Other videos - landscape thumbnails in overview … BUT also for collections in the same library the potrait thumbnails - for the same video. That is totally impractical!!

PS: But I think the best thing for the music video would be an extra library - similar to the music library. With square posters and the possibility to filter by artist.

The other video library for music videos is actually only a makeshift.

Current versions:
Server: 1.24.2.4973
Plexweb: 4.62.1
iOS client: 7.23
Roku Client: 6.9.4.7254

Plexweb and Roku Client show poster art as wide (landscape), while iOS displays poster art as tall (portrait). My understanding is that it is meant to be wide/landscape (though still no official word from developers on this topic), which means that now iOS is the client that is still inconsistent in this regard. I have now updated the poster art for several thousand items (to landscape art), so I hope that effort was not in vain.

Summary: iOS client needs to start adhering to the landscape poster art standard.

Current versions:
Server: 1.25.1.5286
Plexweb: 4.66.1
iOS Client: 7.26
Roku Client: 6.9.12.7411

Plexweb and Roku have wide poster art. iOS has tall poster art.

Issue is still ongoing, and iOS appears to not be adhering to poster art standard.

Current versions:
Server: 1.25.6.5577
Plexweb: 4.69.1
iOS client: 7.29
Roku client: 6.9.18.7546

Plexweb and Roku have wide poster art. iOS has tall poster art.

Issue is still ongoing, and iOS appears to not be adhering to poster art standard.
