[BUG] iPhone and Win Plexamp: Album sounds fine in Tidal and Plex, but won't play in Plexamp

I just came across a weird bug. The album “Feeding The Flame” by Sad Lovers & Giants sounds great in the Tidal app on my iPhone. When I try to play the same album in Plexamp (via Tidal integration, because it’s not in my personal library) it is barely audible, at about 10% of the volume it should be, and Plexamp reports it is AAC 96. The waveform also looks like a solid block of audio maxed out from beginning to end even though the song has a quiet intro.

Playing it on my PC via the Plex server web browser interface does not have any of these problems.

Edit, add screenshot:

looks like the loudness analysis ran into a bug and thinks it’s way louder than it really is. it’s possible your play of the album resulted in it kicking off for reanalysis.

How can I fix it? I cleared the cache on Plexamp on my iPhone, and also force quit it. When I load the album again, it still has the same problems.

Also tried in the regular Plex app on my iPhone and it’s the same problem.

Remove your album from your librairie folder
Scan your librairie
Empty the librairie trash
Add again your album folder in your librairie
Wait for the album to be analyse
Try again

As I said, the album is from Tidal, not my personal library. I don’t see how your instructions would fix the problem.

You right, sorry for my misandetstood.

I deleted cache, reinstalled Plexamp, and this particular Tidal album is still FUBAR on my iPhone and Plexamp on my Windows PC. However it plays fine in the regular Plex app on my iPhone and the Plex Server local website on my PC (via Chrome).

So… must be a bug in the Plexamp app code?

Do you guys want logs or anything? If so, tell me what to do.

i just brought up this title in the desktop Tidal app … during playback the streaming quality indicator shows as “normal” rather than my “HiFi” default setting … this suggests that Tidal only has a low-res copy of this title (very low bitrate optimized for slow mobile connection)

playing this title on Plexamp (with loudness leveling disabled) should give you the same [unfortunately unimpressive] sound that you’ll get on Tidal native or other Plex apps

That’s bizarre! When I checked it the other day, it most definitely said Hi-Fi. I still had it queued in the Tidal app, so I verified it. Then when I skipped to the next track it changed to Normal. How odd. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a track show up as Normal before.

I’m not sure if this explains why the Plexamp apps are failing to play this album, while the Plex app and server interface don’t have a problem with it. Because it still failed the other day when Tidal was sending out a Hi-Fi stream.

Plexamp played it when I tried (I only tried with loudness leveling disabled)

I do occasionally see albums in Tidal that only stream at “normal” resolution … just now saw “Robert Hood, Omega: Live” for example
