[BUG] Items not marked as played when cast from Android or iOS app

Server Version#: 1.19.4.2935
Player Version#: 8.2.1.18636 (same on Android phone and Nvidia Shield)

This only started happening after an update to the Android TV app.

When I cast a movie/TV show from my phone to the Android TV app , the watched status and/or position of the media is not tracked. This leads to “on deck” entries being incorrect and positions in movies being incorrect also.

Note: this does NOT happen if you cast to the Chromecast on the Shield, only when casting to the Android TV app.

It was fine on the version of the Plex app that shipped with the Shield (7.23.0.13018), but broke after an update.

A quick update:

Firstly, a note that the same issue is present when casting from Chrome.

One interesting thing I found while playing with my Home Assistant automations.
I’ve installed the Plex integration so as to have direct access to the Plex client on the Shield.

When I play something on the Shield via the remote, the Plex client entity in Home Assistant updates to “playing” and adds all the relevant media info.

When I cast something from another device, the client info does not update. It just remains “idle”.
Could this explain why PMS doesn’t track playback position, etc?

Any thoughts?
