Bug - Items that were split apart affect the watched status/play progress of each other.

My example - The Greatest Showman - 2 versions, 1 normal, 1 sing-along (Both the same resolution) These were split apart and given different posters because the sing-along version subtitiles are burned in and they are separate titles on the disc to begin with (You can’t just turn on the subtitiles). When I play through one, the other is now marked as played through by that amount. Marking one as watched marks the other as watched.

The same thing happens with Batman Vs. Superman (Extended is in 4K, Theatrical in 1080). They are in fact different lengths and behave the same way. Perhaps this is intended, but if they’ve been split apart the idea is that they are in fact separate.

You have to match them using different agents. I.e. go into the sing along version and select “fix match” from the bar menu on the top in Plex Web. Then select to use The Movie DB instead of Plex DB. At that point the movies become 2 separate entities.

Sometimes I wish it wasn’t that way too… I have the same issues. I don’t know what I would do if I had 3+ versions of the same movie?!

I just ran into this same issue accessing v1.13.4.5271 of PMS from a web browser. I had started watching Star Wars and when I came back it showed me as watching both “Star Wars” and “Star Wars: A New Hope” which are different movies. While it is nice to have a work-around for a bug, that is not the same as having the bug actually fixed. I could see an option to keep two split movies linked in some way (for example, one B&W, the other colorised) to be able to switch back and forth without losing place, but most of the time the movies are actually different and requiring the customer to jump through a hope to keep them different is not right. At a minimum, the split function should offer to perform the secondary agent search for you at the time the split is made, but there is probably a better way to handle it than that.

Always hoping the little things get fixed before more are broken by the latest big new thing…

This post you replied to is over a year old but It’s not a bug and completely intentional and has always been this way, Because if you see Mad Max Fury Road, then you saw the story of Mad Max Fury Road. Regardless if you have not watched the black and white/chrome version of Mad Max Fury Road. Watch status is tracked by GUID which is based on the agent it got the main set of metadata from. Because for example if you deleted the movie file then a years later decide to get the movie again or are just getting a better quality version doesn’t mean you didn’t see that movie.

I don’t disagree with the premise of split apart things possibly getting their GUIDs differentiated somehow and I think their could be improvement around that, but just because you don’t like the way something behaves does not make it a bug.

I suggest making a post in feature suggestions about it, I don’t think i have seen a similar request there. https://forums.plex.tv/c/general/feature-suggestions
