huh, the android app is full on rubbish at the moment. Just fired it up on my TV, and would play hardly any of the Movies I tried.
Which version… not sure, I do get betas, so it would have been one of those, did an update, so in theory the latest one in the play store. Same thing… and no useful on screen message…
(I opted in to the beta program ages ago as there were fixes i needed, although I should probably opt out again now, as all they seem to be able to release recently are horrible buggy messes.
got annoyed, uninstalled and installed some old version I had on a usb stick.
oh look it plays all the files I throw it… I am sure it has issues, but at least it plays my files !
And I have turned off auto updates so at least I can hopefully reliably play stuff, after all is that not core functionality?
Android TV app is not working after last update for direct play of movies. I am on local network. Yesterday everything worked like a charm, but today, i got only error says, that it is not able to play media, or server is not enough powerful to convert video (but there is no need to convert the video). Something is really wrong. Almost all movies have the same issue.
There is no issue on Plex Media Player for Windows
// I have SONY KD60XF8305
// app version: 8.12.2.22756 (07e2b014)
I don’t get any error. It just tries to play, but there’s no sound and the playback itself is impossible to watch - Gets stuck for a split second every half of a second
Android tv app does not work not even direct play, but with transcode also! It just does not play! So it opens the file, server thinks it is playing (I can see seconds moving in the server dashboard), but it does not play on tv!
How to fix? Images bellow..
Thanks, that helped. Although the version, that lets TV sleep after playback is done, won’t let me pause. When paused, every second it just jumps a second forward - like watching 1fps video I have no idea how you can screw up pause feature
The only cable - to power outlet. Just pure Wi-Fi streaming
Also found, that all 8.12.x versions are unusable. 8.10 works well so far. Will try 8.11 later
Don’t know what version it was before, but now I’ve tried all from 8.10 till latest and all of them prevent TV from sleep after playback is done. When video finishes and you go to Android TV home screen, it still shows that Plex is playing…
Yes, if you manage to find that one video of hundreds you have, 8.12.x does that - plays to negative seconds when video ends, but most of the videos it just won’t play at all. And previous versions seems to play to negative seconds after finish, but just doesn’t show it (how else it would prevent TV from sleeping)
8.11 seems the most stable version for playing library videos. If you want Live TV/DVR to work, then I saw a post that said either 8.05 or 8.06 was the last version where that worked half decently.
