Bug: Movies split by news or other short program are not recording the second half

I came here to post this topic so I’m glad it’s already being looked at!

Even if it was possible to manually record both halves of a movie that would be enough. But at present, if you ask Plex to record the first half, it automatically says it will record the second half too (then doesn’t).

Thanks @sa2000. Have you had a response?

Not Yet - @cire12 is on holiday till next week

Until this issue is fixed, I’ve hacked together a Python script which finds scheduled recordings in the Plex database for movies which are split and updates the minutes after the end to the length of the interval plus the second part plus the default minutes after end you have set for the DVR:

All you should need to do is change the db_folder variable to the path where your Plex databases are stored (not including the database name).

I’ve run this a few times to fix recordings. It may take a short time before DVR Schedule shows the corrected end time (restarting Plex will force this to update).

Is there any update to this issue yet. Does anybody know when this is likely to be fixed. I have noticed that even though I extend the end of the film to record the second part I am now getting issues on some recordings if the first part is shorter than the second it only records the second part of the film.

This has been allegedly “passed to the team” many times on many plex forum channels. I have been using this for a while now (years not months) and the only work around is as you have already found is to an a ridiculously large time afterwards. Beware that 90 mins extra run time catches 90% of your split recordings but you will still get caught out as it doesn’t always cover it. So until Plex fix this is issue, which is still and has always been a Plex issue, it’s the horrible-pot-luck-hope-it-works workaround.

I probably record 6 movies a day, more at the weekend, half of whom are affected by the issue. What I do for each is find each movie in the guide, note the length of the 2nd part and add that + 10 minutes. Really irritating.

Thanks for sharing - really helpful and has got me a step closer to a DVR that is actually working how it should. Not sure if you have read this recent post which suggests a fix is actually being worked on.

As you can see from the linked post above, the solution is being worked on.

The solution we will be implementing will cover the following UK Channels. If there are any channels in other countries having the same issue - please let me know the country, post code, lineup/guide, channel number and name and an example of a split movie airing

A week or so in and I’m pleased to see this working well. The workaround was a ball ache - thanks for getting this done.

Thanks for the feedback - the fix went out last month and a subsequent additional fix for an issue seen with 4 movies that had a duration issue

So all appears to be good now. If there are channels that have the issue - these need to be reported and will get looked into

I am arranging for ITV4 + 1 to be added to the set which currently does not have valid EPG schedule data
